Ford parts on a Chevy???

Maybe some useless tech, maybe not. I had a customer last week with a '66 Chev K20. Original closed-knuckle front diff. The story I got was the PO robbed one hub/drum for a '75 F250, then sold the three legged (three wheeled...? whatever) Chevy. I didn't have the right hub for him from a Chevy, but I had just purchased and stripped a '75 Ford Dana 44HD (3500 lb model).

The books tell me that '61-66 Chev K20 spindles are the same as the '62-67 (if I remember the years right) F250. Then the F250 spindles were the same part number up to '75. Obviously if the spindle is the same, the hub will take the same wheel bearing ID, so bobs your uncle that way. It's full-time 4WD, so no need to worry about locking hub crap, as long as the snap ring fits on the outer axleshaft once the drive flange is installed, again, bobs your uncle. So, '72-77 Chevy drive flange + '75 F250 D44HD hub = '66 K20 parts

Fingers crossed

We'll see how it works out, the F250 hub ships out today. If nothing else I figured it was good to learn that the spindles were the same, I'm assuming a lot of stuff back then was swappable.

First pic shows F250 hub next to '72-77 hub. Second shows how the drive flange fits. Third is the stock '66 Chev hub on the truck.

Re: Ford parts on a Chevy???

Technically its not a Ford part but a Dana part which is why it is interchangable.

Re: Ford parts on a Chevy???

All the dana stuff will swap around. Just need to match the series most of the time ie. 30, 44 or 60.
