Is it possible to disassemble the bed by unbolting? Or are there some pieces welded I will have to grind. The bed needs work and we are trying to save some space so we figured disassembly would allow us to stroe pieces til they are needed.

If it's the same as a '67-'72, it's all bolts except for two welds at the rear crossmember that need to be cut out.

All bolts except for 4 welds at the rear sill to bedsides. One ~1" at the top both sides, and one ~4" long on the backside right below the tailgate. The easiest way I've found to grind out those welds is with a 4-1/2" grinder with a cutoff wheel.

I will tell you now GOOD LUCK!! My daughter and I took apart her bed a couple of weekends ago.

As Captain Fab stated, the only welds were in the back. Unfortunately on hers we had some damage on one side, and the hinge on the other side that prevented us from getting the 4 1/2" cutoff wheel in there, so we scored it as much as we could get to with the wheel, then persuaded it off with a BFH and a cold rolled chisel. Probably made more work for myself, but it was all I could think of at the time. I didn't know what was behind there, so I didn't want to use a sawzall.

We started unbolting all of the wear strip bolts, and got through about half of the bed, before giving that up. Then we just broke out/chiseled out the wood, and used a cutoff wheel on the bolts. We were trying to save the wear strips. Soaked them down with Liquid Wrench, and let them sit for a week, then put the head of the bolt upside down in a 9/16" 12 point socket, and wacked them with a hammer (using Captain Fabs suggestion). They all came out. You can see pics towards the end of her build thread listed below.

One of the welds is here the other is on the face of the crossmember just below this weld.

....stuff you WILL need to do the job... 1, sawzall and several GOOD blades
2, 4 1/2 " grinder with good cut off wheel
3, SAFTY GLASSES!!!!
4, B.F.H. (self explanatory)
5, COMPLETE FIRST AID KIT
