Can I run motor with no driveshaft installed?
I'm working on getting the motor on my truck running. Can I run it without a driveshaft without trans fluid leaking all over the floor?

Yes.
You might jack the rear of the truck up a bit so no fluid comes out of the back of the trans though. Sometimes if the fluid level is high enough, some will drizzle out. If you put the back of the truck about a foot higher than the front you'll be covered either way.

Re: Can I run motor with no driveshaft installed?
I have a plastic plug I put in the rear of mine. I've never ran it with it in though. I use an old yoke as I have several. They may still sell the plugs at most auto parts stores but I haven't checked. I wouldn't trust it to leak without something plugged

I was going to put it in gear as well and see how the transmission sounds.

You can start it with no driveshaft, but I wouldn't put it in gear with the engine running with out the driveshaft. Without the yolk there is nothing supporting the output shaft of the transmission, it will move all over the place and could possibly damage the trans.

Re: Can I run motor with no driveshaft installed?
Good info, thanks! That's the kind of thing I want to avoid. No point running the transmission to find out if it's any good and then destroying it by being dumb!

Re: Can I run motor with no driveshaft installed?
Then it will fly off and wreck the bottom of your truck AND the transmission.
