Billet Wheels

So i got my bonspeed wheels the other day and i can see scratches in the wheel. I called and they said in a lighted room you will see them. Is this true, just thought for 3k they would look like mirrors.

Re: Billet Wheels

For 3K they ought to be about as perfect as you can get.

Re: Billet Wheels

I have a set of $6k 24" wheels Bonspeed refused to fix. They did not protect the hoops when they welded the centers in, and since we had the hoops clear coated, it looked like someone threw sand in 2 of the wheels prior to clearcoat. It was on the backside, but should not matter, you could see the problem areas through the spokes.

Re: Billet Wheels

That is bogus, have you tried polishing a small portion yourself, though be careful!? How often is it required to polish a wheel like that, I am considering going Billet if my build turns out perfect.

Edit: What model did you get? Just curious

Re: Billet Wheels

I've got a set of Centerline 17" billet wheels on my wife's truck. You can polish them to a mirror finish easy enough. But even using a cotton t-shirt on them at that high level of shine will "scuff" the finish. I have had good luck with micro fiber towels. After that a good coat of wax will keep them looking good for about 3 months. Here's a before and after a good polishing.

Re: Billet Wheels

No I haven't tried to polish them cause I payed extra to have them powder coated clear so polish would always look good.

Re: Billet Wheels

Even a highly polished wheel has scratches. The scratches are just so small you cannot readily see them. Unless they are a coated rim, the expectation would be that there could be something to be seen in the metal. Once you drive down the road the scratches will start again, just from dust. However $3K definitely should provide for a really shiney looking wheel. I have been running Billet Specialties on my trucks for several years and I polish them when they need it. You have to calculate the cost of returning them compared to polishing them properly.

Well then...no need trying to polish them... Did you get them outside in the light and look at them? Any pics?

Ahh! I hope it works out for you, maybe talk to the vendor PTS, he might be able to help even though it wasn't his sale, he sells Bonspeed.

Re: Billet Wheels

For that type of money I'd want them almost perfect. On my crager SS they were a mirror finish for a lot fewer dead presidents. I know they are a different Co. but for that kind of jack..

Re: Billet Wheels

I would take them outside and see how they look in normal conditions. I think that under certain lighting an otherwise fantastic finish can look poor.
Under halogen lights the hood of my truck looks as if someone polished it with an angle grinder, any other time it looks like black glass.
If your rims are going to look exactly the same after 100Km of driving, why bother returning them? It's a tough one.
