Bosch oil filters are made by champion. Champion and Delphi make AC delco filters. Champion also makes Mobil 1, Supertech, deutch, STP, car and driver, and K&N oil filters as well. 10W40 oil does not contain any more wax than other weights. 10W40 is simply too heavy of an oil for the tight clearances of today's engines and can cause engine damage if used. There are many synthetics that are available in 10W40 that are made from Poly alpha olefin and esters, and contain no parafin whatsoever.

I've always run Havoline in my vehicles. Usually 20w50. It doesn't get that cold around here.

I was wondering about changing to synthetic.

My truck has 113,000 miles on it.

Would there be a problem changing synthetic oil in an older higher milage motor?

True synthetics (G4 and G5 fluids) have a natural cleansing property to them. They will clean sludge and varnish from your engine. The problem is that on some poorly maintained, high mileage engines, this sludge and varnish is preventing bad seals from leaking. If you remove this sludge the seals sometimes begin to leak. Synthetics do not cause leaks themselves. The myth of synthetics causing seals to fail comes from 20 years ago when mobil 1 used an all PAO base that caused seals to shrink. ALL true synthetics today use G5 esters in their formulations which causes seals to swell and negates the effects of PAO. The formulations today are 100% safe in that regard. Personally, I have never seen an engine that leaked on synthetics, that didn't leak on conventional oil, but what I said about the cleansing properties of synthetics is true and that needs to be taken into consideration.

I've been running Castrol 20w50 and AC PF35L filters in my ol truck.Oil consumption is down and oil pressure is a little better.

I don't know how many miles are on my engine but it is the original big block that the truck was born with and it shows fourty something thousand on the odometer now and who knows how may times it has rolled over.Still holds twenty five pounds at idle and about fifty pounds at speed.Mine too smokes at start up and the front four cylinders foul plugs pretty regularly,but oil is cheap and so are plugs and she carries me about a hundred miles a day with no problems.Until I get time and money for a rebuild I think she'll do just fine.

Champion is actually a quality filter manufacturer.

Mine smokes on start up also, that's why I use the 20w50.

Changing them valve guide seals is a *****. Me and my Dad did it on my GMC that I used to have. I'll pay someone to change them on this truck.

I've heard alot of good things about that AMSOIL. As far as the Fram debate...I'm pissed because all I have ever used in my truck is Fram. So now my engine probably sucks because of it. Thanks to you guys I will never buy a Fram again!
