That was cool. Thanks for sharing. Somewhere I have pictures of me when I was 10 or so with my younger brother on a sled pulled behind what is now my Jimmy. Didn't have cool tires or the top off back in '78 though.... Hopefully my son gets a chance to do that here some year!

Sure looked like the kids were having fun with big smiles on their faces. Thats what I would call a Alabama boat ride.

I've heard that called "hooky-bobbing". People around here do it at the dunes with wake boards (duh), and when its icey people use inner tubes and whatever rigs they want to. ...except unlike in your video they dont know how to go slow and have fun. We seem to have a few kill their kids off every year by driving mad crazy fast and sending their kids off the tube into parked cars, mailboxes, or oncoming traffic. Darwin at its best, so big kudos to you for doing it safe and making sure everyone had fun!

Re: Boat sledding with 1972 Blazer

Newbie question (sorry):

What is the square metal piece on the side in front of the rear wheels, behind the door? Is it on both sides? Additional fuel tank fillers?!? Why do some blazers have them and some don't?

I am looking at buying one (online) that appears to have them so I am very interested.

Now, after watching that video I wish I lived closer to some snow!

Re: Boat sledding with 1972 Blazer

Yes add on fuel doors on both sides. They are aftermarket. I hate that it has them but in 1972 the extra fuel would be nice and it was the popular think to do. The problem is that the blazer is much shorter and it has extra supports below the rockers. So when added the supports were removed.... luckily my blazer spent most all of its life in New Mexico and is rock solid. Without them it weakens the truck and allows more flex. With rust in the floors and rockers it is hard to keep these truck square. (doors aligned etc..) If the roof is removed it can cause big problems. The supports are available and were easily welded in place on mine....so now mine is good as new but has the ugly doors minus the tanks.... One good thing... I feel the supports being removed helped in the lack of rust in my truck over the years... Hope this helps... Bubba

Re: Boat sledding with 1972 Blazer

We used an old hood off a what I think was a decrepid ford truck. Worked great for 3 kids towed behind a John Deere snowmobile out on the farm. then it split the seam down the center of the hood so dad braze welded it and away we went again.
Course, in high school I remember a 25ft rope, My buddies toyota pickup that had no roof and plastic dish sled we "borrowed" from a neibor kid racing around the football field as fast as it would go. Unfortunatly the football field was next to a christmas tree farm. There were a lot of bruises.
