Fork in the Road.

So I picked out every part down to the bolts and nuts I was gonna do on my frame off restomod. Now I have been talked into LS series motor by multiple friends. I was gonna do bb Chevy, but I happened upon an ultra low mile 6.2L and 6l80 Tranny with wiring harness all done and ready to run. The cost is 7500 for motor tranny and all wiring done 6 wire hook up. Being I was gonna spend more than that on just the BB chevy motor I was looking at I am thinking of going this way but I am stuck. I think the LS would be a blast to have but BB Carburetor has been my dream for years.

What do you all think?

Do what YOU want, not what your friends want you to do. That way you won't regret it down the road. It's you truck and your hard earned money going into it. That said, tahe 6[.2 would be an awesome engine. But do what you really want to do.

Fuel injection is awesome. It's your truck and ultimately you are the one to satisfy, but for me it's FI any day.

A lot of people are having the same thoughts! I think 5 years from now it is going to be mostly LS motors,still there is something special about a BIG BLOCK!
You can get AWESOME big block from Mark Jones at VORTECPRO for a lot less than 7500!

As mentioned...do what's going to make you LOVE the truck....I think either one of those choices will....and the convenience of a modern motor that you can jump in, turn the key and go can be nice. How do you plan to use the truck? DD, cruiser, show truck? That also would weigh into my decision....

Personally, I'm not on the LS wagon yet. I know all the advantages and this and that... I'm just old school I guess.
Now, with that being said... If you have the $$ to do this, and you have a good deal at hand, go for it, worst case, you pull it out in a couple years and sell it to the next guy who wants to do the mod, and then you install the old school big block.
From my limited knowledge, that price sounds pretty good for a complete package with harness. Modify your fuel system and you're in there. It sounds to me like you can't lose money, only your labor if you aren't happy with the end result.

I havent jumped on the LS wagon yet, but lookin hard! over the past 25 yrs, I have run a 425 Cad, a mildly hopped 461 Olds, a 355 chev, & finally a 383 Chev in the old longhorn. If you are into BB power, I would say go for it....there is no substitute for cubes, unless its MORE cubes That big bad Olds ran like stink in my old truck, but was not one bit easy on fuel! In this spot in my life, I am looking for a little more fuel friendly cruiser, that is fun to drive. Idle like a stocker, & go like he!! with a 6spd box & 3.73 gears Its your baby, you should do what makes you feel right about it....crazyL

Yeah I had thought of it but decided BB now on the fence again. I think I am just sold on the LS power and options. Although its gonna be harder to make it look pretty.

Once you go Big Block you'll never go back! There is just something about the stick you in the seat torque you get from a Big Block! I say Big Block!

I did think about the carbed LS but I have decided to go with the l92 truck motor.

If you really shop around you can find complete LS engines with computer, harness and transmission (auto or 6speed manual) for $3K-$5K with low mileage. also the aftermarket parts are endless. There's nothing like the torque of a big block though..

I just think you will be so much happier with the LS! PLENTY of power and driveabilty that cant be beat. Roll out of bed early in the morning and gotta be somewhere? no big deal! Hit the key and your off! No fuss!Stop and go traffic? So! You got a nice, smooth running designed to handle it LS motor!

To get the same amount of power that the 6.2 has out of a BBC it s going to run rougher, hotter, less "nice and friendly", louder, and WAY WAY less fuel efficient! You should be knockin down mid to high teens at least for MPG with the 6.2. With the BBC you will be lucky when you see a full 10mpg.

Moral of my story? LS!

I had a Olds 455 ready to go in my truck, but I decided against it. The reason was fuel mileage. I wanted my truck to be a daily driver, and the Olds 455 I had in my Buick only got me 8-9 mpg.
