86 aux power?

Hey guys, I've been screwing around trying to hook up the stock radio back into my truck (original owner hacked it out). I noticed when I turn the key one click I have no Aux power. When I turn the key 2 clicks the dash lights up and the radio works. Just wondering if I should be able to listen to the radio without turning the dash on? Also there Is a clicking sound coming from the motor when the key is turned 2 clicks, can I harm my distributer or anything when the trucks powered up like that?

Thanks!

Re: 86 aux power?

If your listening to your radio alot without having your truck running you can just hook the hot wire on the deck to a hot wire that is always on even when the truck is off, that way you can just use the POWER button on the deck to turn on and off your deck regardless of what position the key is in, that is how i've done it in the past, just remember to turn it off when your done so you dont drain your battery

One click forward is just "unlocked column", two clicks is "hot" - ie where the cylinder sits after it is started. Your aux is one click BACK from lock. Radio should come on in that position and column remains locked.

up is battery from the lighter wire
middle is off
