Winch Question
I was wondering if anyone has used this product. http://www.harborfreight.com/3000-lb...ead-91781.html
Ok I know this is low quality product from China. But I want to use it for just that little tug you need when you realized that you have gone to far and want to back out of trouble. I do not do any heavy wheeling anymore. Just the unplowed roads getting to the cabin and stuff. I will be mounting it to my receiver hitch when I need it. It will be pulling a 72 LWB 1/2 ton 4x4. Is this a waste of money and false sense of security?? |

Re: Winch Question
I don't think you want that. No comment on quality or anything. It's just going to be too light. I think that is more for an ATV. Your truck weighs a good bit more than 3,000#. Add rolling resistance due to being stuck and you could easily be at more than 2 1/2x that capacity. You might scrape by with 6,000#,but 8,000# is really the minimum for what a truck needs

Re: Winch Question
I would say you need to go bigger because my grandpa burnt one of those up pulling a small car onto his trailer and he used to put a lot of trucks on his trailer so he put a 12,500lb winch on a receiver so if he ever got stuck he could pull himself out(90 f@%d f350 flatbed dually 4x4 w/ toolboxes, compressor, welder, etc) that winch has never failed and is still in service 8yrs. later and paid for itself in about 3yrs.

Re: Winch Question
IMHO, this would be bare minimum for our trucks...
http://www.harborfreight.com/8000-lb...ake-67576.html Costco and Sams have a good deal on winches. They come with everything but a receiver hitch to mount it to. |

Re: Winch Question
Try doing a search on Craigs List for "winch". You can usually find some pretty good deals if you're not in a big rush to buy one and I agree, 8000# at least
