Best junk yard find?
I have been striking out latley at the salvage yard and I'm tired of it. Time to live vicariously through others.
What is the coolest/rarest/most unmolested etc, part that you have ever pulled out of the yard? Lets keep it only 67-72 parts or at least parts from another vehicle that you put ON your 67-72 (corvette engines, dana 60 front axles, etc). So what is the best thing that YOU personally have ever gone and found, pulled, and brought home? The best thing I have ever found was a perfect 69-72 passenger fender, no rust anywhere! The unique thing about it is it only cost me $125. That's not bad, but I know most of you can tell me a better story.

Re: Best junk yard find?
I have pulled tach, vac, speedwarning dashes, buddy buckets, an AM/FM stereo, etc...but the RAREST part I have ever pulled was an uncut taillight harness. I have gone through a LOT of trucks in the yards, and I have only ever found 1 original, uncut, unspliced taillight harness.

Re: Best junk yard find?
Pretty much the same as leddzepp. I suppose one of the best was a 63 327 SHPE fuel injected engine. (FI was gone... but still cool) You have to put your time in around here. I can drive hundreds of miles in a day and come home with little or nothing, then get a call and score big in my backyard the next day. Ya gotta love the challange.

Re: Best junk yard find?
A '72 Ambulance with bucket seats,shoulder,belts,door panels,perfect barn doors,and 402/TH400/ps.
I got all of it and was there just for automatic linkage...I spent under $400. For around here that was cheap. The engine/trans combo was $300.

Re: Best junk yard find?
i forgot one super rare find that i DID NOT buy- 68 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 panel. if memory serves me correctly there were only 48 of them built in 68. it was in the same yard i bought the above mentioned bed from and a good friend of mine bought it---and he still has it.

Re: Best junk yard find?
I found something I hadn't seen before, and I got it for a buck:
It's identical to the original, except it's molded out of black plastic. I got these seats out of the same vehicle, a '67 Sportvan, for 15 bucks: I think it was a good day at the pick & pull!

Re: Best junk yard find?
Been a while ago, but I scored a full factory Tach dash for $20. Told the guy I needed the Speedo. A couple months later the same yard told me I couldn't get parts from "that truck" because they were "storing it for a guy". That was 12 years ago. Last summer I went to that same yard, and truck was still there. BTW, the Tach still works great
