How does this work?

Hello guys,
I just got this 70 CST and it has a pull out switch on the left hand side of the gauge panel, the other two switches on the gauge panel are the lights and the wipes. I think I have seen were it is called a throttle control of some sort. How does it work, I pull the switch out but I do not seen anything move under the hood of the truck. Is it connected to the carb? It is something I have never seen on my other two trucks, the truck did come wired for towing. Is that why it is there? I do like the hole there if I wanted to put another switch there and have a factory looking panel.

pic would help but it sounds like a manual choke switch. or what was the manual choke switch,

More than likely its a twist cap. Make sure the tiny screw is tight and twist the cap to the left (counterclockwise) and the throttle should increase. Twist it to the right (clockwise) and the rpm's will decrease. It's a pretty neat thing, but don't twist it too much or the cable will get kinda twisted and it won't work as well...
I think they made these for warming up the truck, I've used mine in the winter a bunch so you can't crank up the rpm's to keep it running while I get ready!

My belief is that they were originally for trucks with a PTO, but as the years went on you started to find them in lighter trucks too.

huh didn't know they had one in pick ups. learn something new everyday. i should at least had an idea but i don't think ours is original in our c60 its a pull/push and its on right side by the wiper switch for the pto

No..he is talking about the throttle cable in the dash bezel....67-68 had them on the left side and later models have them on the right side i think.

I have a 69, mine is located just below the lights switch on the left side. So maybe 70's and later came on the right?

It does twist like you are talking about, it does not appear that it can be pulled out like the light switch.

No, my switch is located on the left side of the gauge bezel. It is the lower of the two switches on that side. It does appear to maybe twist and not pull. I have tried both and seen nothing moving around the carb. I did not want to break it so I am not using much force. I will take a picture of and post.

This switch is on the left also, could I have a 67-68 dash bezel? I will post a picture.

Do you know what they called the switch on the SPID. The truck still has it in the glove box, maybe it is listed there. Is it rare to see this on a 1/2 ton?

I'll check tom if I notice anything listed on the SPID. You know I really couldn't tell you if it's rare or not...I have a Custom 10 with the cab mounted roof lights. So idk if maybe it just pertains to that certain package? I haven't really noticed that many people having them around here...When I go to car shows and stuff I don't really notice them, I don't always try to look for those tiny things either I guess...

Hopefully someone else will chime in and tell us if they are indeed rare or not and why they only put them in certain "styles" if you will.

Thanks for all your help ryans69chevy. I looked thru some other threads last night and found they came on the left and the right side. I think most were on the left from 67-70 and on the right in 71-72 if I am understanding it right.
I do not have this option on my other 70 CST, but I did find the "THROTTLE" label that goes above the knob under the floor mat. I just got the truck so I am still finding small things hidden in the interior. The option is listed on my SPID, I looked last night. I did find out how it worked, after searching with a flash light cause it got dark on me. I do not know if all work this way, but mine runs thru the gas pedal throttle linkage to the carb. Comes right off the end off the throttle rod going to the carb. Thing I can not figure out just yet is, some guys say they have a twist knob type, mine appears to work just like the old school pull type manual choke. Well ever how it works it is all there so I will hook it up to the carb when I put the motor back in and give it a try.

That's pretty neat that you have a pull out knob. It's also sweet that you have a CST! I want one of those so bad! I think your right about the right and left in certain years, I've noticed that as well. I believe mine is hooked up just like yours, sometimes I watch the pedal move back and forth when I turn the knob. It's pretty freaky the first time you see that! Good luck with your CST! It's so fun to tinker with these things.

If you ever come thru Va. and decide you would like one let me know. I have 2 70 CST's, one is swb and the other lwb. I know where 2 more 70 CST's are located. I want them, but I have no room in the garage. They both have the 67-72 rust spots, but both can be fixed, one of them has a bad trans. and the other the motor is about to give up. Good news is they both are for sell for $1000 each, and both guys will jump on $800. Well back to work on the truck the glove box will not open any more the lock fell out the thing for some reason.

I hear you!!! I have 3 of them now and I know were some more are, they seem to keep popping up when I am not looking for one. I keep trying to park a few in a friend's hay barn. Told him to just put the hay for the cows in the bed. He is not going for it at this time. He will let me put them out in his pasture, thats all I need is a cow falling in love with my truck!!
