Re: Build Thread-Project 1 color

Thanx for the feedback RCbowtie.

Today pulled the front crossmember, what a gigantic PITA!
Ended up making a giant mess on the floor of the garage (tools, brake fluid, grease and crud etc.), destroying all brake lines from the cab forward and had to bend (destroy) the fuel line to get a socket to one of the crossmember bolts.

Re: Build Thread-Project 1 color

Here's some of the progress pics, after the mess was cleaned up.

Tomorrow; drop the rear suspension, finish gutting the cab (removing e-brake and driver-side vent).

Re: Build Thread-Project 1 color

Dropped the rear suspension from the frame. The panhard bar bolt was crazy locked on, but finally broke it free. The trailing arm bolts let me use my new 3/4" drive 1 1/8" socket and breaker bar. Surprisingly the trailing arm bolts weren't too bad to remove. Of course I rounded off the bolt fitting for the brake lines and had to end up destroying the line. Brake-lines and I do not have a good relationship. Here's some pics;

Also finished gutting the cab. I'm going to separate the cab from the frame next. Tomorrow I have to return to work, from my Christmas vacation, so finding time to work on this will probably be impossible until my summer vacation.

Re: Build Thread-Project 1 color

Removed the trailing arms from the rear axle. Luckily it was an easy job, I heard of trucks that had the u-bolts rusted to the axle tubes or the nuts were rusted to the u-bolts and the owners had to cut off the u-bolts.

Cab is now officially gutted.

Re: Build Thread-Project 1 color

***This thread will be put on hold for a while.***

The '69 LWB truck has be dismantled and put into storage. I will be moving the cab and rear axle to storage. The rear frame was sectioned and sold out. I will someday start cleaning and painting parts and slowly get it back together.

In the meantime, I'm gonna go through my storage unit and any extra parts will be going on the board for sale. Maybe I can finance my project that way since I have 2 storage units of parts.
