New Guy has a 1966 lwb fleetside c20 saying HI!

New guy here....
After reading hours worth of threads, lurking for a while I registerd here.
Today I actually looked at my truck, seriously looked at it for the first time since 2004. Its been sitting with brand new tires with only 200 miles on them after my recored radiator failed and I over heated the motor driving 100 miles home from work. I think I have a blown head gasket since it was ideling funny and if I remember right white smoke comming from the passengrer side exhaust. The motor is a 350? Po or ppo was raceing the truck I guess and I have paperwork that it was doing 12's in a 1/4 mile? It is cool I guess for a lwb fleetside. I will get pics up sometime.
Not too much rust in the usual places. Just the front fenders by the door and looks like my windshield molding is shot and water got on the dash. Good thing I live in the hi desert and it dosent rain as much as it does down the hill in Upland, Ca where I used to live 10 years ago before I bought my house.
The truck is primerd and has always been since I got it in 1999 for $2800.
It was so much fun to drive, loud with dual 3" exhaust and cut outs with wing nuts. It has a cool stance too where the front is lower then the back. Turns out from reading information on this web site the 66 was a good year truck.
So It hasent been registerd in 7 years and I didnt get a non up but Im sure the clock resets it self after 7 years anyway so the registration might be no big deal. I was kinda waiting untill then to begin looking at it again and now that I found this web site NOW is as good a time as any.
I al l ways had a starting problem with this thing. I think it was the ground cable, also the flex plate kept cracking?
Through hard times I never thought about selling the truck because it is so cool looking and I had some good times in it for 5 years and all ways got thumbs up from drivers everywhere I went.
Back in 98/99 I wanted a 69 chevy truck bad that I looked and drove thousands of miles total and looked at about 20 different trucks. I wanted a old chevy truck because they are easier to work on and I liked the 67-72's. It wasnt untill I was at a guys house looking at his 1971 or so chevy truck that I changes gears all together. He had another old chevy in his drive way that was so bad a$$ looking that I had to talk about that. It was a 1965 chevy truck he said. WOW, It was so cool. He lived in Upland, ca near arrow route (If your here) I went home and got out the recycler and started my search all over again I looked at about 10 before I bought mine. I didnt know the short beds were cooler back then as I was only 22 but to this day I love it. 3/4 ton, no regrets.
Okay fast forward to 2008 when I bought my friends 96 silverado off him for the drive train 5.7 but the truck was too nice to cut up. Its my daily driver today.
So my plan is to sell my 19' speed boat with outboard for 3k this spring and spend the money on the 66. Once its sold the truck will go in the garage and I can really begin looking at. I will decide if I want to keep the drive train or get another truck for parts. I allmost bought a 1977 chevy 3/4 ton long bed with a 454 and 80,000 original miles last week for $1500 bucks but it sold fast. That would have been a good parts truck I think.
My truck has a small window and is just a plain old primerd old truck that is starting to get some patina (rust) on the top. I will find or just take fresh pictures of the old thing because I know this thread is worthless with out pic's, lol...
Thanks for having me here, Mike

Welcome to the madness. My grandfolks lived in San Dimas, so I used to spend a month every summer tearing the piss out of Upland Skate Park from the mid 70's and into the 90's. The only thing I ever new about Upland was the park

I sure have. Great site and great people. I learned a lot from them. After I finish this truck If my wife will let me I'll get another one, though she rather have a pontoon boat.

Man, I want a boat! I went to Navy small boat school when I went through my master helmsman course. I would love to do an outboard runner like that some day.

Give me an excuse to keep teh tow hitch

Re: New Guy has a 1966 lwb fleetside c20 saying HI!

This boat was real fun. It kept my mind occupied during some tough times (lots of dental work) The week after I finished it one of the guys at work liked what I did with the boat and gave me a 70 VW squareback that was as a mess. I finished that in 4 months (which should have taken a year) Another guy at work liked what I did with the VW adn gace me this truck. If I keep this up I won't ever have to look for a project again. I don't think I'll be able to build a rack for the truck to fit on and go over the island in my garage though.

Hey Mike, this is Mike living in Missouri. Gotta love the 66 LWB. Mine's still a stock 283/4sp. Where did you get those 8 lug slots? Are they 15"? I found these 15" spokes, but slots have always caught my eye, fully poloshed with mother's wheel cleaner. Don't sell just fix a little/drive/fix a little/drive etc.

Hi Mike, I guess maybe I got lucky because the rims came with the truck when I bought it way back in the 90's. Is that what they are? Slots?

All I want to do now is work on getting this truck in the garage and get it back on the road. Well atleast get it running again. I have a boat in the way of doing this though but im going to sell now I think so Ill have $$$ to spend on the truck..lol.....

Yeah I remember the way it goes. Drive, fix, drive, fix, drive, fix but now I have a few more dollars in my pocket compared to when I was in my eairly 20's...and a garage......
Too cool, Mike
