1968 k10 lift questions
Hello I was just given a 1968 k10 longbox from my grandpa. I plan on putting a solid lifter 355 in it and retain the 4 speed. My plans are to lift it about 6 to 8 inches and put some military 37's under it. I've been searching and it looks like only skyjacker makes a lift for 67-68 years because of the longer rear springs these pickups have. How would I go upon lifting this pickup? I want to use springs and not through blocks on it. Has anyone lifted these pickups and can you share with me what you did as far as lifts?? The pickup will be driven on the street but mainly used out in the country and mud bogged. Any help will be great!

Re: 1968 k10 lift questions
I had 73-up springs rearched to fit and it gave me about 5 inches of lift. I also added a zero rate add a leaf that gave me another inch. For the rear I am doing a shackle flip that will give me some were around six inches with the stock leafs. Check out Off Road Design.com they have the shackle flip for your truck. Hope this helps.

Re: 1968 k10 lift questions
It cost me about $160 for the front springs. I build my own shackle flip brackets but there some were around $200 from ord. If you have the ability to do the work your self it will save you a lot of money. The down side of it is you have to track down all the odds and ends yourself, like longer brake lines, steering components and other small things that a kit already has.

Re: 1968 k10 lift questions
I wonder if i can just order a front 6 inch lift kit and get everything then order the shackle flip kit and get my springs played with for another 2 inches for a total of 6. I'm not sure how level it would sit maybe just get an inch out of the springs for 5 inches. Thanks for that website I found lots of cool stuff!

Re: 1968 k10 lift questions
Does it have drums or disc brakes in the front? If you order the lift kit that only comes with front springs and blocks with an add a leaf for the rear. Just don't use them and go with the shackle flip. You mite get a hold of ord and they mite be able to put everything together for you in a kit.

Re: 1968 k10 lift questions
being a 68 i believe it has drums on all four corners...I can't buy everything for the front then get the rear done with shackle flip and an add-a leaf? I'm just hoping to fit 37's under it

Re: 1968 k10 lift questions
Yeah you can, just saying I don't think you can buy everything for just the front in a kit. I'm trying to get 37's under mine too, hopping for 38's though I don't think its going to be high enough. Check it out "My 72 C/20 build"

Re: 1968 k10 lift questions
I'll see what i can do. I'll probably call some companies and rough country is cheap priced so i might look into it! I'm going to buy the goodyear military 37's just because they're cheap but i need to try to find some 16.5 inch wheels with the 6 bolt pattern.
How do I look at your pictures? |
