Need help on what to do about stereo and speakers.
Hey all,
So finally last monday, 1 of my 2 working speakers in my truck went out. Now I only have 1 of 4 speakers working now. I'm trying to make a decision on what to do. Went to cartoys, looking at some nice 4 by 6in speakers for the stock locations. Found some but the other thing is that the original factory speakers we're rated at some crazy ohm rating. 9.5ohms to be exact and all thats available on the aftermarket is either 4 or 6ohms. So from what I've heard is that if I put 4 new speakers thats rated at 4 or 6ohms that the main transistors in the brain of the stock radio could get really hot and could possibly blow or something. Can't remember where I read that. I think it was on the GMT-400 website, IDK? The transistors from what i've read that are in the brain of the stock radio (you know the box under the dash) are only meant to run 9.5ohm speakers so the question is. Should I just go ahead and put new speakers so can actually have some tunes and pray that the stock radio does not blow up or anything soon or should I just go ahead and ditch the whole stock setup and not worry about blowing up anything with the new speakers? Thanks |

the 4 ohm speakers will be fine
The key is to pick a speaker that doesn't need a ton of power and is efficient. (db senitivity) |

Run it till it quits then replace it with a nice remote controlled CD player. Doubt it'll catch fire, just quit working, is my experience with them. Prolly will work fine.

Okay then, thats what i'll do. Just put the new speakers in and run it till the old stock one quits and get a new radio. Better because it will save me some money to do some other stuff to the truck till the old stock radio dies.

I'm not a fan of oval speakers and typically run a 4x6 plate with a 3" and tweet that fit in the same hole.
Something like this

I'd get 5 1/4" rounds, it'll take a little cutting but will sound tons better than those "plate or 4 by6
as a bonus they are cheaper(most) |
