1987 Chevy R10 Restore
I got this truck after trading my 1990 351w mustang GT. I have started what has become a lot of work. It came with 305 tbi and th400 trans. I will be putting in a 350 tbi. I will list everything i do to it as i can. I need all the motivation i can get.

Re: 1987 Chevy R10 Restore
when you go to purchase the alternator check against the other GM alternators.
mines from a 454 power everything truck and was 60 bucks less then the "120 amp performance" model specifically for my truck... it's retared but that's the way it's coded in the computers at the stores... good luck!

Re: 1987 Chevy R10 Restore
The mustang needed a lot of work and would have required more money in the long run. Don't get me rong I loved the mustang but I needed a truck and that is a good reason to spend some money on it without getting to much crap from the wife.

Re: 1987 Chevy R10 Restore
Welcome, Texasbigbear -
Take a look at my build thread, if you are interested (my Introduction thread linked below). Start to finish was about 5 months, and I did it all in my driveway (my truck has never been in my garage). K

Re: 1987 Chevy R10 Restore
What intake setup should I use? I was considering the Edelbrock Performer T.B.I. but I have herd not to waist your money on them some have said use the Dual Plane performer with an adapter plate. What would ya'll say?

Re: 1987 Chevy R10 Restore
'87s rock, nice choice. You'll also want to pick up a new chip since you're going to a 350. The 305 chip will work, but a proper chip will work better.

Re: 1987 Chevy R10 Restore
Nice restoration there!
I'm doing a restoration on my '89 silverado and saw you were painting the frame and I need to do some painting to my frame too so did you sand and paint or did you just use spray paint? Just wondering, i'm new to this and learning as it goes |

Re: 1987 Chevy R10 Restore
I used a 3000psi press- washer and cleaned it till there was no grease on anything then you can use a good oven cleaner that don't require heat and let it set for a few days it works well then clean it again. The frame is painted with rustOleum rubberized undercoat
This works well cause I found it sticks well to just about anything. The fire wall is low gloss black dupli color engine paint but that is because I had five cans of it setting around. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1987 Chevy R10 Restore
On the trans I used the pressure washer to get it clean as possible then gave it a soak with oven cleaner and let it set a few days then p washed it again. Repeat if needed.
