spark plug wire, hei module ?'s

how can you test a plug wire to see if it is good or not? is there a way to test the module in the hei without putting it in the motor? thanks

Testing spark plug wires is easily done with an ohm meter. resistance will vary, but comparing readings to other wires in the set works. Any reading approaching infinity indicates a bad wire.
This test does not work for cracks or defects in the insulation if for example, a plug wire spark jumps to ground.

An ohm meter can also be used on testing the module. I usually compare to known good module values. This is not a conclusive test but works in most cases. The other method that I use is to spin up a test distributor in my distributor machine. That is the best way that I know of testing a module.
