Steering / Brake Help Please

I,m trying to get some answers for my steering and brake questions and I know the 67 to 2 guys/girls know just about everything .
I have 4 wheel standard drum brakes and manual steering.
I would like to make both power. Whast parts do i need? Can they be obtained at a local jobber?
My wheels are 6 bolt and i,d like to keep them that way so i dont have to buy new ones so no switching to 5 bolt discs. I,ve heard that drums can even be drilled for venting. I just want to drive truck as recreation so i wont be putting a ton of miles on it.
These are the last fixes I have to get doneto get this put back on the road which i would really like to do this year. Please help.

Re: Steering / Brake Help Please

Hmmm, if I recall..

Brakes will need a master cyl/booster, brake fluid,
vacuum line for the booster, and a place to plug it in (usually a ‘T’ fitting
on the back of your intake)…some if not all available from local parts store.

Power steering gets a power steering box, pump, pulleys & belts, brackets
to hang the pump on, etc. Brackets & pulleys at the pull-a-part (take pics
of the donor truck’s set up). The rest you can buy new or reman.

I think on some early 68’s you may not have a dimpled frame for the
steering box. We used to beat it in with a sledge but I’m sure someone
here has a better way.

Any corrections or missing things here gents?

Here is a link to a booster/MS/ mounting bracket from summit. Looks like good deal.

Re: Steering / Brake Help Please

I just did what you are looking to do.Here are some pics of parts I used., some brackets I had to make, to hard to find or they wanted way to much money for them. We on this side of the boarder have more trouble finding goods parts. If you need more help don't be shy. There are lots of pics on this board.

Re: Steering / Brake Help Please

drum brakes dont have or need proportioning valves they use distribution block and you should already have one in place.
bad idea to drill drums for venting as it can cause weakness and failure of the drum

You are absolutely correct...was thinking on what I had changed
on one of my trucks and forgot the prop valve was due to the
disc brakes...my goob. Thank you.

Re: Steering / Brake Help Please

To convert to power brakes, all you need is to find a donor truck with a power brake booster setup. Get all of the parts from the pedal linkage (rod that bolts to the pedal) through the booster. It is a direct bolt on. I did mine in about an hour. Even the stock lines are long enough, just bend them slowly and evenly.

There was a step by step tutorial on here somewhere.

Best mod I have done. I did a full brake job, but it still took a lot of effort (been a long time since I had a rig with manual brakes, so I couldn't remember how much effort was normal). Before I definitely had to plan ahead when coming to a stop. Now it is just like all of the cars you are used to driving with power brakes.
