cant get the radio to keep presets
have a wire running to fuse box which i thought would be constant. to keep presets and such. but its not working. everytime i shut off truck. power is lost. presets go out. and then when i start truck again. i need to power up radio???? wouldnt the wire run from fuse box at radio fuse. be the constant? or is that power?? then i hooked up a tach. and ran the white wire into fuse box. i think at the guage fuse. and now my interior lights dont light up?? any help is much appreciated. |

Re: 2 questions
On the first question, I would assume that the radio power is switched, not constant, due to the fact that the radios back then had mechanical presets, not electrical ones like now.
I have heard on here that the best constant to run to is the lighter circuit. I do not know that for a fact, but I'm sure someone can confirm that for you. I don't have any answers for you in the second question though, sorry. |

Re: 2 questions
thanks for reply.
radio is an aftermarket radio. not original the back of radio says what goes where. and i saw the link that tells me what wires do what. but i dont have an orange....so i think thats why they ran a yellow to fuse box. i saw something about the cig lighter as constant...not sure which the lighter wire i need to splice into is....i saw 2 orange ones would the cig lighter fix my problems?? if so, do i need the yellow going into fuse box?? |

one is red (switched) this you power from the stock radio power (if it never had any you can use the radio plug in the fusebox and run an inline fuse on that red power line an inline fuse is a must if you use that tang.. or a short can burn down your truck the 2nd newer radio power for the memory is most times yellow this wire I tap into the cig lighter. trace the wire from it.. this is always on.. and will hold your presets untill you blow the fuse for that circuit.. as far as your tach.. what make (who made it) most tachs only need power from the fusebox for the internal light.. the wires to make it work go to the coil and ground, most times.. list the maker of the tach or better yet.. go online to that companies web site and read their instuctions.. autometers web page will have it. And I'm sure others do to.. autometers black ground red power battery white is gauge lighting , hookinto dash lights green to coil Last edited by stich626; 02-28-2011 at 01:22 PM. |

Re: 2 questions
thanks for reply and info.
tach is sunpro...its working. conected black to ground, green to diz. red to fuse box. white, i put into guage fuse. at fuse box. i was just wondering why i didnt see any lights on this morning. as for radio, ill try and tap into cig lighter. hopefully it will work. guess i need to pick up a couple inline fuse things. right now i have a yellow at fuse box, no fuse. a red at fuse box, no fuse and the white from tach in tehre with no fuse. directions actually showed a pic of white wire going into cig lighter as conection for the lights for tach. i just was unsure which orange to tap into. |
