I had this crazy idea at work today while working on a 2007 2500HD. My BBB only has about 8" of vacumn and thought how cool would it be to put a hydro system on the 71. It doesn't really look that that would be that difficult, but really like to have the power assist braking with the big O girl. So if anybody has done this or has a better idea to make it stop better without breaking the bank please reply.

Been thinking the same thing for my 68 C20. Theres a newer chevy at my local salvage yard that has the firewall unit still intact. Gotta go get it soon. Then gotta change over to discs front and back. Haven't seen any with all 4 drums using it yet.

I've got the same idea in the works for maybe 3 weeks out. I have a hydro booster out of my wrecked 2000 GMC and I've got 4 wheel disc already. I've seen some other posts from folks on here that have done it.

Last time I looked, it didn't seem that difficult. Some modification to the piston push rod to pedal attachment, measuring the correct length from the firewall and such. Probably a good weekend project once all of the hoses are made. Figure on throwing in a new steering box and pump while I'm digging around also.

Member Shaneschevys on here converted his 67 GMC dually to hydroboost. I seem to remember him telling me that some of the existing holes lined right up so he could mark the others and drill them.

You mean like this? It's not really all that hard, and they work way better than vacuum boosters.

I've wanted to do that on my 71. I had the Hydro boost on my 77 1 ton 4x4 and loved the way it worked and the feel of the pedal.

Is that a square body hydro boost you are using?

It's actually off of a 2003 Silverado HD, but one of the hard lines was off a 1985 . They're pretty much all the same though.

It worked really well, but I've since sold the truck. I heard it went to California, so I'm sure the A/C will get a workout there.
