Truck Running Badly...?

Topic: Well I was driving the truck the other day and as I approach a hill I give it a little gas. Now I can only explain this like it felt like it had no "pick up" or I was running on 6 cyls or sumthin cause nothing changed. It only seemed to "sound" different as the exhaust was a dead giveaway to a local admirer of my truck that it wasn't running well. It idles normal but when you hit the gas it seems to get noise-er and seems to lack it's original power. My engine is a 283, with a 4 barrel carb. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks

Brian

Check the advance also, cintrifical may be stuck, or a spring is stuck if you have points. check the distributor cap for a crack, take a look at your plugs see if any look discolored, that could be a big clue as to what is going on.

That sounds like your timing is too far advanced. Check your timing again with the vacuum advance for the distributor plugged.

besides timing points plugs condensor distributor cap sparkplug wires all of which have to be changed on a regular basis (routine preventitive maintenance) you also could check the fuel filter at the carb and the fuel screen in the gas tank
