fumes and squeeks
My truck is squeeking every bump on the road, its driving crazy. Is there anything i can do for that? The shocks look very old. Also the exhaust fumes are killing me. Just standing outside of the truck and you can smell it alot. The spark plugs are brown I'll be putting new ones on tomorrow. Where do i start guys? Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

Re: fumes and squeeks
You could start with the shocks, but you probably need to replace some of your suspension and/ or cab bushings. And as for the fumes you probably need to adjust your carb.

Re: fumes and squeeks
is it only at idle that the exhaust fumes are really bad? or can you smell them while going down the road? if its only at idle then its running rich at idle and you need to adjust the idle mixture screws and chech to make sure the choke flap is opening all the way. for the squeeks, it could be the shocks, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the suspension bushings either.

Re: fumes and squeeks
sounds like the grease worms are hungry! If you don't feed them grease they eat metal.
Upper and lower ball joints tie rod ends idler arm pitman arm. If you can make the truck squeak while sitting in the driveay have a friend crawl under to see if the can pinpoint the noise. |

Re: fumes and squeeks
Same thought same time/ probably just greaseing all the zerk fitting in the front end would stop the squeaks. There is several-Upper Ball Joints, Lower Ball Joints, Tie Rods end inner and outer, idler arm

Re: fumes and squeeks
Where does it squeek from? Does it sound like up front? Why not lube it before doing the shocks? Does it act like it needs them? You can't go by how they look. Is the ride bouncy or real hard?

Re: fumes and squeeks
I had a squeek like that for about 8 months, turned out to be the muffler hanger under the cab. I used some bushing grease for the synthetic bushings on the rubber part of it and its gone.
