How Dumb Would It Be If I Bought This?

http://omaha.craigslist.org/cto/2241427405.html

I feel like I would be divorced shortly, too. The "aftermarket sunroof" part really scares me.

It seems kind of high for a parts truck.

I don't see much there to want. Did you want a 4wd frame and running gear? The pictures don't show and the seller doesn't even mention if it's a K/10 or k/20. I assume it's a K/10 with 3.73s. If it was a SWB it could be worth it...if the frame is good.

Re: How Dumb Would It Be If I Bought This?

It seems like a pretty shady ad to me.

There's another truck on one of the Nebraska CL's, I think it's a '69 K10 short box that looks like it needs paint, guy is asking $7,000. 4x4 67-72s are hard to find around here in decent shape so when they come up people want an arm and a leg.

My brother is a body man and my cousin is a mechanic, so the thought of restoring it crossed my mind... Then I thought better of it. Just wanted to make sure I was right in thinking the guy was way out of line.

Re: How Dumb Would It Be If I Bought This?

$1500 is too much. To put it in perspective I bought this for $700 and it has tilt, a big block, and runs. granted it isn't a 4x4, but the trucks are similar

Also, I wouldn't buy ANY truck with a fifth wheel plate....Guaranteed he overloaded it.

So if you truly want to get divorced, wait until you find something better and cheaper to replace her with!

I have bought two former 5th wheel haulers and they were two of the nicest trucks I've owned. One was my '72 K/20 Highlander and the other is the '72 K2500 I've owned for 10 years now and it's been incredibly reliable. It was very well taken care of and set-up proper for hauling.

This may be a better choice, it's a little more but you may have more to work with:

There are of course exceptions to the rule. It's good that you got a couple good ones and I think the key is they were properly maintained by their former owners. The majority are not.

If i had the choice to buy two identical trucks with one having a fifth wheel, i would personally prefer the one without, and probably pay a little more to get it.

Dad's got a 327 block sitting in a shed... I'd rather have a 4x4, and I'd rather have a GMC, and really, I'd rather have a 3/4 ton. I'll probably never find one that I want. Wife says I'm too picky.

The last 3 trucks I've bought had fifth wheels already. Two of those trucks, the owner traded for a diesel. I dunno, I guess around here it's pretty rare to find a truck without one. I do agree with you though that I'd rather take one without a fifth wheel if I had a choice.
