Was just reading this thread and was wondering why are the split rims illegal? I have 16.5 tires on my 68 c20, are those the split rims?

So glad that this subject has come up.

I've learned that I have been incorrectly referring to my 1968 OEM wheel's as "Split rim", when it seems that they are actually "Lock ring wheels". Heck, my Dad called them splits as long as I can remember.

I am going to start looking around for a tire shop that has the equipment to properly work on them.

Say what you will about them, I all to well understand that they are not the best choice wheel. But, I am more interested in bringing my burb back to the way it was when I was a kid and the way it came from the factory.

Mine originally had the split rims.I still have them but have no intention of using them.Nobody wants them so I have them still.
I replaced them with these stock rims.I think from 73 up.I still like the look.

Is that an 8-lug wheel? Where did you find the chrome trim rings? Looks nice.

I am going to use freshly painted wheels w/Nos covers on the project truck and original wheels and used covers on the survivor.

Yes they are 8 lug.I bought them as a package on ePay.

Does anyone know of a 5-lug rim that the 67-68 dog dish hub cap will fit on? I think it will have to have the little clips in the inner part, but I'm not sure.
