Lightbulb Cab removal

Is it possible to remove the cab from a 1970 lwb without taking the hood/fenders/grill off? I wouldn't have thought so, but I saw someone else on this board that had the whole front clip taken off of the frame as one piece.. I thought perhaps the clip would stand the same on the frame with the cab removed?

The reason I'm asking is I've got a truck that runs, I want to completely restore it, don't have a garage. I want to remove the cab, take the entire cab to a shop for painting and then mount the cab back on the frame.. everything else I know I can paint and bolt on separately later as I can. Is this a possibility? I don't want to pull the engine/trans, and I don't want the engine uncovered while the cabs gone.

Re: Cab removal

ttt.... to the boards Sam...we'll try to get ya an answer for this, but I think there's a thread where you can pull the front clip off as one piece then remove the cab...let me see if I can find it....I think that'll be th easiest way to do this...

I'm not going to say it couldn't be done but it would not be fun. Too much stuff in the way. It really isn't that hard to pull the front clip in one piece.
