Engine mount question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I pulled the 307 out to replace it with a fresh 350. The old motor mounts were separated, so I went to Napa and got new ones. I put the new ones on the block, put the trans back to the motor and set it all back in. Problem though. The passenger side just will not line up. I am only about half of a hole or less off, but it will not go. Am I missing something? I have loosened the towers to let them move. It will line up front to back, but the way it is off is like the engine is not far enough down in the "cradles". Help???!!!!! I let it sit overnight hoping the new rubber would compress a little, but it didn't.

loosen everything up. Both towers, and then both motor mounts on the engine. Once you get the bolts started (on both sides) then tighten everything up.

i had that same problem on my wife's 67 i tried almost everything, my dad came in (30+ years auto tech) and said let me show ya a trick we used to do on these. He ground a point on the bolt (like a sheet metal bolt) and hit it with the air ratchet and she sailed right in.

I finally got it. I lifted the engine back up and checked the threads on the motor mount. They were "boogered up" a little bit. I cleaned them up. I remembered the trick you were talking about. I saw a man grind the first two threads down on a bolt to start in a header one time. I did that. Dropped it back down and with a lot of "massaging" and some prayers, it finally lined up.

Well I wasted alot of time last night when I had help. Then went out tonight with no help and finally got it. Now it's time to move on to something else. I am just ready to drive the thing!!!
