exhaust manifold removal

I'm about to install headers on my 69 gmc...The manifolds have been on about 20 years. Whats the best solution to get them off? Heat them up some, spray a lot of lube on the bolts, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, David

Re: exhaust manifold removal

spray lube days before the removal, for everyday. Sometimes going forward (tight) first, then backing off works. Don't heat up the bolts. Try to apply heat around the head or manifold SPARINGLY!

Re: exhaust manifold removal

I'd hit it with some WD40 or similar a few times and run through a few heat cycles. Then with the engine warn, slowly turn the bolts a very little bit in each direction until they are free. As the threads are in the heads and far from the bolt head penetrating fluid will not likely help a whole lot but certainly would not hurt.
