lowering springs
Does anybody know if I would have to do anything special if i go with 3 inch and 5 inch lowering springs on my 66 c-10. Please keep in mind this is a build on a budget (aren't they all) just a driver. If anybody has any pics of any trucks with lowering please send them. thanks

Re: lowering springs
Do a 3"front and 4"rear you won't have to do anything 5" in rear you will have to notch!

Re: lowering springs
If you're looking for around 3" I'd consider saving a bit for dropped spindles. Saves the geometry and keeps lower arms a little higher.

Re: lowering springs
You will need to add shorter shocks.

For pictures check out this link: Static Drop Photo and Data Thread And, FYI, if you look at the Static Drop thread you will notice a lot of guys are running 5" rear drop springs and did not c-notch their frame. That's likely because they removed the stock rear bumpstops. That's what I did. Good luck! Last edited by lakeroadster; 03-07-2011 at 02:20 PM. |

The spindles are really the least expensive way to go, do you have coils or leaf springs on the rear ? |

Re: lowering springs
Kieth,
How do you figure spindles are the least expensive? Remember the original post said "budget" and didn't go into swapping disc brakes and the like. Front drop coils are about $120 for a set.Is this some of that "Fuzzy Math" that I hear politicians speaking about? Last edited by lakeroadster; 03-08-2011 at 05:30 PM. |

Re: lowering springs
You should go with jeep springs in the rear. You can pick up used ones for less than $30. This will lower you truck about 3 to 4 inches.
Here is a link to a post about jeep springs: http://www.google.com/url?q=http://6...Xu05bgtJsvC4EA You can also make your own drop blocks, but you will need to have someone make you new ubolts. The rear is cheap to lower, but the front is what cost the bucks.

Re: lowering springs
Very nice! Where did you get 3" front drop springs? Did you use 2" and cut a coil off?

Re: lowering springs
I've been cutting coils way before there were dropped spindles, lowering springs, bags and etc. If raidersfan78 is on a budget and all he wants is a little attitude for his daily driver then springs will do just fine. I do admit there is a limit with springs.. and four inches is it. Dropped spindles are the best way...... thats why they were invented! Over the years I've lowered 55/56/57/65 and 66 chevy's by removing a coil or two and drove these cars for years without a problem. If you're going Delmo then we all know whats involved! In this case springs will do!!!
