67-72 crossmember and control arms
Ok so I scored a crossmember and control arms with disc rotors and stock spindles, my question is how do I tell the difference from 67-70 and 71-72 crossmembers? Are the ball joints different? Spindles different? Gonna order drop sindles and don't wanna get the wrong ones same with the ball joints tie rods etc.... Please help I'm new to this style truck and wanna ho to 5 lug with disc brakes ASAP! thanks again for any input

Re: 67-72 crossmember and control arms
It won't be a 67-70, they are drum brake.
It will be a 71-72 or 73-87. Got any pics of it? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 67-72 crossmember and control arms
The a-arms are 67-72 for sure.
I don't see a tab for the steel brake line to rubber brake hose connection. 67-70 would have one on the back of the crossmember. 71-72 would have one on the front side. I would guess 71-72. The only way to know for sure,... is to check the upper balljoint or outer tie rod end. They are specific to the 71-72 trucks.

Re: 67-72 crossmember and control arms
Did you get the steering centerlink with it also?
That will make your life easier when it comes to buying parts. Also,... are you planning on rebuilding this new front end? Or just installing it as is?

I'm not really sure what you have. Looks like a 67-70 crossmember that someone has added disc brakes. If it were my truck,... I suggest buying 67-70 conversion drop spindles. Then you can re-use all your original 1970 steering linkage. Tie rods, centerlink and balljoints. Option # 2: You could buy 71-72 spindles. (same price as the 67-70 spindles) You would have to buy 71-72 balljoints, and outer tie rods. If,... you have the original 71-72 centerlink (which no one makes new anymore),... you can then use 71-72 inner tie rods. If not,... you will need to buy conversion tie rod sleeves to connect to your 71-72 outer tie rods to your old '70 steering linkage. The only advantage I see to using this crossmember assembly,... is that you can clean and rebuild everything, prior to the day you actually swap the parts. Since you are buying all new suspension parts,... just match the spindles, ball joints and tie rods,... and you will be fine.

Re: 67-72 crossmember and control arms
cool thanks lolife... that is what i was thinking... this crossmember setup looks like what is on my truck now, im going to get the steering centerlink from my friend and get all that blasted and all new balljoints etc.. etc.. then just bolt this to my truck and im done.. with the front setup almost. gotta get the brake booster and all of course.. best place to get balljoints? tierods? etc? so 67-70 drop spindles, 67-70 balljoints etc. for that year and im good? with this crossmember and a-arms that i have? sorry so many questions. just dont want to order double or wrong... also if i get the mcgaughy brake kit i HAVE TO GET mcgaughy drop spindles? or is it better going with cpp or ece? i looked at all them online but they all look the same to me... dont see an advantage to either one really..

Re: 67-72 crossmember and control arms
I would get Moog brand suspension parts, ECE sells a front suspension rebuild kit.
