AD-s10 steering box swap

Anyone looked into using a different steering box on there AD-s10 swap? The s10 manual steering looks to be shorter. Unisteer has a bolt in rack for the s-10 if you've got a lot of $$$.

Thinking maybe a less hacking on the sheetmetal and radiator fab work.

Re: AD-s10 steering box swap

good luck finding a manual box. i have been looking for one myself. when i do find one they want $150.00 for them i can get a reman for 30 bucks more. the only difference is the box is a little shorter but the stub shaft makes it the same length as the power box. jeep cherokees and wranglers use the same box from 84 to 93 if you can find one again.

Re: AD-s10 steering box swap

Why do you want a different box? Smaller? Most of the GM boxes are the same. GM metrics and camaros I know will work if you use a S10 pitman arm.

Im running a ZQ8 (s10 sport suspension) box on mine. It has a tighter ratio same as the camaros.

I haven't had any problem finding manual boxes. Must be where you are located. They are still in the way of the radiator, by the way.

Yup, the only way you are going to get around that is rack and pinion. I knew it would be a problem so I got a smaller aluminum radiator.

Re: AD-s10 steering box swap

I was thinking it might save a little of the sheet metal cutting, but since the manual uses the same 3 bolt mount it would be in the same location.

Re: AD-s10 steering box swap

look for s-10's that came with 4cyl. the box is small enough to give you added clearance you need.

the 4cyl and 6cyl S10s came with the same steering boxes.
the only option that changes the size is manual vs power steering.

Re: AD-s10 steering box swap

if you do some further checking you will find the 4 cyl boxes are smaller, reason being they were manual! never came across a 4 cyl s-10 with power steering. anyone?

I owned one.
Was probably the best truck I owned too.. bought it for 300, did the headgasket/waterpump, drove it for 4 years, then sold it for 500 when the engine let go...

Should have just fixed it, was a good truck.

I have an S10 manual box that I bought for my Malibu but never used. I would let it got for $100 + shipping.
