I have a set of truck rally wheels on my '71 that came off of a 75 or 76 . They have center caps that mount with screws from the back side of the wheel. Over time the center caps have pitted, and the chrome has started flaking off. I'm in the process of painting the wheels, and the trim rings are in perfect shape. I can't find exact replacement center caps, so I contacted a chrome shop to see what restoring the center caps would cost. After reviewing photos they told me $125 for each center cap. Total $500, free shipping both ways. I'm looking at all of my options. Will the center caps that bolt from the front work on my wheels? If not, I may just put corvette rallys on it. My personal preference is GM rally wheels for my truck. Anything else will not work for me.

The later caps that bolt on from the front will work. That style Rally wheel were all the same through the years.

I was referring to the style they used up to 87 for the 5 lug Rally wheels, not the newer ones. Sorry for any confusion.

Long Horn Man, from the angle of your picture, it looks like the the ones I have, if they stick out about 4 to five inches. I can't judge the depth. From straight on, they almost look flat. It's probably the way I'm looking at it. Your's is the closest I've seen to mine so far.

72 Super, I've found several sets of center caps that look like what your talking about that bolt from the front. There are a couple of reproduction sets in ABS plastic that look nice with a decent price on evilbay, but I'm leary of chrome plated plastic. It's good to know that all of the rally wheels of that type were the same, with exception of width. That gives me more options. Blast and paint the wheels, mount the new tires, polish the trim rings and I'm in business. I still have to solve the center cap delima though. I hate the thoughts of having more in the center caps than the new tires!

mine are later model caps, 90's style.
I have found that plastic chrome (quality jobs) is better than the typical aftermarket real chrome. Sad but true. Basicly most of your made off shore chrome is going to be marginal at best. I have some spinners on my wheels that were brand new, and not real cheap, and after 2 years (with waxing) look like CRAP... but the plastic GM centercaps they are bolted to still look as good as they did in the 90's. Same goes for the plastic lic plate frame I had on the front of my old Lincoln. I accidently got a plastic one and was ticked that I made such a stupid mistake. (had a chromed metal one on the back) but sure enough, one year later, the front one looked great still, and the rear one was pitted and looking like garbage.

Long Horn Man, The plastic center caps that I'm speaking of are described as high impact ABS. The pictures look darn good. They do bolt from the front, but I could live with that. The decription also says brand new reproductions(4) for $50.00 plus shipping. What are the best ways to clean and maintain them so they will last a long time? It's been my experience with chrome plated plastic that it scratches easy, and will peel. The chrome plated plastic molding on my 95 S10 Blazer is cracking, peeling, and looks like crap.

I wax them in the spring, and in the fall. That's usually it.
