How do I tell if I have a real Cheyenne Super or just a good glove box door? VIN tag is AWOL off door post from PO

The vin tag being gone is a suspicious sign...won't it also be a problem registering?

In regards to identifying it, a std cheyenne would at least have a cargo light and headliner so it should have that. The super package would have included woodgrain on not just the glovebox door but also the dash bezel and the door panels. The SPID on the glovebox door will help identify it. Also should have upper and lower moldings

It has cargo light, headliner, woodgrain door panels, and u/l body moulding. Guage package is there, but no woodgrain on the bezel or glovebox. Is that just a stick on veneer? (could have been peeled off?)

Just bought her, came with a valid ownership, not gonna dig too deep into that. We aren't too concerned with that here in Canada, just happy to find a rust free 72 4x4.

And post some pictures up when you get a chance.

The dash bezel and glovebox door had a wood overlay not just a stick on veneer. The glovebox door had an inlay with the cheyenne super emblem. Not something that could have fallen off. But possible someone took it off to sell because they bring good money.

Wonder why the VIN tag is gone? You know you can look at the frame rail on the left side and find the last portion of the VIN. It will be between the steering box and the firewall. It' also underneath the cab floor, on top of the rail. It will be the letter for where it was built, plus the numbers that follow.

There's really no way of telling at this point. Cheyennes and Cheyenne Supers had a few stampings the others lacked,like holes for headliner,tailgate band,and cargo lamp. The only features that separate the Cheyenne Super are "super-ficial"

. W/o the SPID there's just no way to tell. Only the Cheyenne Super came with upper mouldings standard w/o deluxe two-tone. Then,there's the tailgate handle cover,dash woodgrain,wheelcovers,and seat,all simple swaps.

10-4, the guy I got it from had a B- body job done. I think some parts got robbed for another truck before he was finished. I have nearly everything to put all back, just curious.

Someone gave it a quick paint job, didn't quite get everything done. But that's alright, gives me something to work on. Some junkyard tours coming up......

Is the rear of the bed higher than the front? Is that on a 72 frame, or later model frame?

I believe it's on a 72 frame. Might be sitting funny in the ice ruts. 72 frames supposed to sit higher in the back?

I think the upper trim isn't on right, it should taper down at the back, and it's making the bed appear higher at the rear.

No,the 73-up frames rise a couple inches up. When those frames go under these trucks the cab needs a couple inches of lift with the bed tight on the frame. I guess he was wondering just how much swapping went on.

Never thought of that, I know the trim is on incorrectly, doesn't really line up from front to back, but never thought to check if frame was incorrect. I thought at worst a bad cab mount.

It looks right looking at the lower body line. Maybe that upper trim making it look funny. Almost has that 'sagging ford truck look' in the pic

How did customs handle that and how did they figure out the value of the truck so they could charge you taxes on it?

I'm looking at going to Washington this summer but I have a hard enough time cross the border when I fly, let alone with a truck in tow

Never crossed the border, bought it a couple miles from my house.

I believe that to be a frame from a 1969 truck built in St. Louis. The number is a partial VIN from a truck that would have had a VIN like CE149S112147. The frame number shown is everything except the "CE14" portion of the VIN.

The frame pictured above is not the frame under the PO's truck. ChevLoRay was posting it as an example.
