'67 or '77? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

OK, I need some logical opinions.
I have a 1967 CST C20 with a great running 350,body is in pretty good shape,th400,buddy buckets,power assist steering,power drum brakes,BUT it has $600 owed in back fees.
I also have my '77 Silverado C20,body too is in pretty good shape,no engine,th350,p/s,p/b,a/c stuff,registered non-op in my name,BUT needs to pass emissions test(not too bad for the year).
My question is should I pull the engine out of the '67 and get the '77 running and on the road, OR should I suck it up and pay the $600 in fees for the '67? Thanks for the infinite wisdom!

The 67 looks to be in better overall condition. I would get it on the road first.

The 67 looks nice and they are a lot more rare (rarer?) to find in good condition but are more expensive to take care of due to lack of parts. The 77 looks fine and could be cheaper to maintain and replace parts but if it were me (though I love squares) I'd go with the 67 first.

I would pay the fees myself for the 67. You'll be $600 deep in replacement parts and time doing the swap, and then left with a 67, $600 in fees and no motor. besides, the 67 is a rarer trucks with the options.

I say the 67'. I am so glad I don't live in California, my 85' sat for at least 2 years, tagged it, drove it. And even though my 67' is in pieces, if I got it together, I could tag it and be on my way, and I have no idea when it was last tagged. I really feel for you all out that way.

Thanks for the input. I think I will use the '77 for parts on the '67. Disc brakes,14blt rear axle,power steering. then I guess I will part the rest out.

I remember you posting about that a little while back...but if you salvage the parts from it for your 67...why not try to sell it as a frame and body combo? just let someone else make it a project truck...don't know how'd that go but just an option

Are you looking to keep both trucks, or make one good one out of two, and sell the difference. If you want to keep both, nothing wrong with driving the 77 with 67 motor so you have a driver. You can always put it back in the 67 later after you fix it up the way you want.

I would think you could sell a rust free 77 cab with no back fees /non-op for $300 to re-coop your losses.

I THINK, if you go to DMV and make a payment on the 67, it will freeze the back fees for one year so they dont go up again(and it buys you time to pay off the $600).

I have also thought about putting in an 'LS' series engine/trans in the '67. That might be an option,pull the 350 out of the '67-drop into the '77 and have a running truck by the end of the weekend. Then I can build the '67 the way I really want it.

Well, looks like I might be selling both. My wife is not "PROJECT FRIENDLY",her entire family have had project cars/hot rods/race cars and she thinks I should just go buy something "nice"....WTF!?...........................maybe I should get rid of her and keep the trucks!!!!hahaha

Well, after looking at the work and money involved, I have decided to keep the '77 and sell my '67. I am removing the 350 for the '67 and cleaning and reinstalling in the '77 so I can drive it.It's already in my name where as the '67 has the back fees owed. 'someone' NEEDS a '67 either for a driver/project or parts.
