Big R on firewall?
I found a big "R" written on the firewall on my 69 wrecker. Any ideas on what that means?
Thanks, Bob

Re: Big R on firewall?
Well, it IS on the right side of the truck. Wonder if anyone had "issues"?
I'm sure that it is meaningful to someone who worked on the assembly lines, back in the day. Hope someone can explain it.....some of the markings on my old firewall were fairly easy to figure out, but I'm sure there's an unwritten code, too. (Maybe there were some male and female assembly workers who were trying to set up a date....)

Re: Big R on firewall?
It means "Reject". Nah,it's an assembly line code,in the same class as hieroglyphics...who knows?

Re: Big R on firewall?
You'd have to wait on us to ask similar questions.....you know that we live for stuff like this, right?

Re: Big R on firewall?
My guess it means red. When I was cleaning my fire wall of my 68 gmc I found a number 503 which I later found out was the paint code for the light green the truck was painted

Re: Big R on firewall?
Do we have a firewall marking database here?
I don't know why they would need to write the paint code or abbreviation since the paint was already on. I have heard of it with cars though, just don't know what the point was. ??

Re: Big R on firewall?
Who knows? That was a different era....
It would be cool to have a collection of firewall grease marker scribbling photos, though. Make it a Sticky.....

Re: Big R on firewall?
The R probably stood for Ron, Robert, Ray or any other assembly line worker with an R in his/her name. And maybe an inspector who put their mark on it to signify that they had inspected it.
Glad I modify everything I own and that stuff doesn't really mean squat to me. |

Re: Big R on firewall?
Factory workers could predict the future. they knew you would end up restoring this truck so they put "R" on there for "Robert".
