heater core fitment
I just bought a new heater core from NAPA for my 69 c10 without AC. I decided to buy one since the insides of my windows would always fog up when I turned on the heater, and soon would turn to ice. I have the original heater core (Harrison) which has tabs on the side of the core so you can screw it onto the heater box. The new one that I got doesn't have these tabs...
Has anyone gotten a heater core that has these tabs? If not how would it sit in the heater box properly upright? Or should I just save my money and flush out my original? If so what's the best way to do this? Thanks for any input. |

Mine was held in place with 2 long rods that went around the core and bolted to the heater box. Mine is a 1972 GMC, non-A/C.
Flushing your old core won't help the windows fogging up. 95% of the time it's because the old core is rotten and leaking. The other 5% of the time is from water/condensation getting in the heater box. Gary

So, I wonder how I could get the core to hold it's position in the heater box... If the tabs aren't there what else could I do?

If you could find some really small allthread rod, you could make your own. When I did mine, even the stock ones didn't fit the Napa core very well.
Or you try to make some metal strapping work. Looks shouldn't matter since it is concealed inside the box.

Are you sure that the bands don't come off your old heater core. I don't remember seeing any without the bands on them for this model on trucks I have changed heater cores on.

Mine was from napa also and had the removable pieces that were installed on the new one. Post a pic if you could.
