GMC vin?
Need help with a vin. Just bought a frame for my project and the guy said its an 84 GMC 3/4 ton. I cant seem to decode the number on top of the frame to find out whether or not its 3/4 ton or 1/2 ton. the suspension seems a bit light to be 3/4 ton. The number on the top rail is TE1514302. any help?

Re: GMC vin?
no axles. its just the frame. they guy had them tucked away in his shop. as far as the springs go, the front leaf pack is only 2 leaves and the rear has 4 leaves plus the overload.

Re: GMC vin?
Well come to think of it my 75 k20 only had 2 leaves up front and I found a page that lists the rear spring pack it has as being available for 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. It's possible it just wasn't a heavy gvrw truck

Re: GMC vin?
My 3/4 ton had 2 or 3 leaves up front (it's been lifted for a while, I can't exactly remember) and 8 leaves in the rear plus the overload. Yours definitely sounds like a half ton.

Re: GMC vin?
I had read the half tons used slightly thinner steel for the frame rails. i think it was .125 for 1/2 ton, .180 for 3/4 and .250 for 1 tons. any truth in this? most of the chevy guys on pirate4x4 seem to agree. Mine measured in at about .187 on the digital caliper
