Grandpa's "Old Blue"
So i have inhereted a 73 chevy Scotts dale from my grandpa, it a beautiful robbin egg blue with a 350 4x4 on the floor. Let's just say she is ruff but after sitting for 10 years in his yard i towed her home and with some new points..plugs...wires..and a make shift gas can (2ltr mt dew bottle) and some gas in the carb...this old work horse shot to life. So the next year i bought a rolling chassie (frame axels wheels) from a 74, alittle less ruff them my cracked frame on my grandpa's...So i have a few pics ima add in here so you can see the damage but yet the possabalities...

update::
So i have gone ahead and broke down...i bought eastwood PRE and alot of wire brushes and other items...about to get the frame hauled to a friends..(indore guarge) thank god! and going to do eastwoods frame restoration steps...step 1 remove majore scale and clean with PRE step 2 rust converter step 3 rust encapuslator step 4 extream chassie black.... first steps chemicals have just arived and will keep everyone upto date... Issues.... Needs new fuel lines...brake lines....e brake cable...tank...cab mounts..floor pan...inner fenders..possable cab support mounts..rocker pannels..hood...steering box plus lines..rims...full exhaust from heads back...break booster and well look bad also...engin covered in sludge...possable gasket problem...windshield is cracked but i have replacement...trany does not work but i have another from 80's truck i was told would work...*gotta look that up...* plus need all new break drums and shocks... all i gotta say is dam you NY salt!!!! what extra im going to do... custom all steel grill... adding lights ontop of cab... adding another leaf to front of truck...*back has an extra thx to grandpa and his hauling fire wood the trucks entire life* changing out solid rear window to 3 piece with a middle slider it already has a custom bumper on it and its a big mother F****er welded to frame..-.- and original 73 ny plate from when gramp first rolled it off the lot.. p.s. im doing all the welding of replacement parts...doing all the cleaning and painting to all the small items...not shure on how i will get the body re painted...i want it to look good...wish me luck huh? |

i think i have a 74-76 chevy blazer trany, was wondering if that is gunna work with my 73 chevy...what info do i need to find out if this is gunna work...blazer was 4x4 like truck..and auto like truck..

blah fron axel def wont work...its auto hub where my 73 is lock in...so switch fron axel...check...but rear axel? same gear ratio? i have no clue...still lost on trany...

Looks like a fun project man. As far as the axles and tranny goes, they should work, as long as both transmissions are turbo 350s (which I'm assuming is what was in it) The axles just switch out the lockout hubs from the donor truck with the full time ones that are on it.

Now i have ran into something that i want to see if anyone has come accross...This dust/dirt shild? im guessing is rotten to H*** and i believe it is held in by 4 rivits? and i was wondering what do you think would be the best way to remove these without much frame repair...?
i also have these ones off my other frame...that i could use if i can remove them with min. damage..? |

Whoa thats rusty! I'd probably weld the crack then weld a plate over the crack. I wouldn't wanna under build on frame repair!

Hammer off the rivet head. Use a 2 lb hammer and a chisel. Once the head is off, punch out the stude. Wow, you have some serious rust. As for the frame, weld in a flat piece of metal. Repaint everthing with a good paint. Use Zero Rust or POR-15. They will holdup somewhat to the road salt.

Wow, that's some serious rust. That's not a dust shield, that's a shackle hanger. You'll definitely want to replace those. You should be able to use one from a donor truck, but I've also seen them online somewhere, can't remember the site but can look it up if you want me to. If memory serves, LMC may have those, too. The shackles are shot, too. You can find those at LMC or get some heavier duty ones from diy4X.com.

By the way, you're doing alot of the same things I'm doing to mine. I'm trying to get my '73 K20 road ready. Working on the complete brake system shortly. I'll update my build thread soon.
