67-68 Grill Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Since I did not have a complete grill to start with, I do not know how the grill insert attaches to the grill. Can anyone show or tell me how to attach the grill inserts to the grill. I would like to see a picture of the inserts attached without the chrome grill trim. PLEASE.

Man, it's been a long time since I've done mine. You can kind of see in post 103 where I installed screws:

I went the the hardware store and bought new screws/nuts/washers that fit the factory holes. I only needed 10 screws (5 top and 5 bottom). They go in the small round holes.

For some reason I thought mine were riveted on but I could be wrong. Either way, it's just a few, and really easy to do.

Holy Crap! I never knew those were seperate parts from the grill.

Question: Are they interchangeable? Can the upper insert be put on the bottom? Reason I ask is that I wanted to get rid of the parking/blinker in the grill. Sorry not trying to hijack, but I figured since the OP question was answered it would be okay...

If you look closely at my old pic, the rivet hole in the center is on the opposite side, but that's just an easy hole to drill, the rest appears to be exactly the same, and yes, some people on here have done it.

Yeh, they're riveted. But bolting them in will work. Makes for easier sanding and painting. Plus, you can possibly put in 2 of the uppers, to delete the light pocket.

There's nothing to it.

They sell a stud that looks like a rivet but attaches with a nut. I used them in both my trucks but they were originally held in by rivets.

I got them from the truck shop down in southern California. They were .75 each. The part number is 60-00707. They are in page 6 of there catalog and the bottom right of the page.

I have rivets (sombrero head) that I used on mine. I have a few extras if you want them.

Whats a sombraro head rivet look like. Will my truck always want to pull into taco bell when I go past if I use these on the grill? Sorry. I had to. The lemon drops looking good.

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if you've installed your grill inserts with the threaded rivets yet? If so, how did you hold the rivet head while tightening the nut?
