Sounds like a bad vacuum leak. Sometimes a guy uses a carb that doesn't match the manifold & it leaves a large opening. Make sure all the tubes in the carb & manifold are used or pluged. I dought if the problem is plug wires.

Plus you need to get it diagnosed somehow before you go cranking and cranking on a brand new rebuild. It's a good way to lose a camshaft if its a flat tappet cam.

Re: ghost problem with new motor

Did you degree the cam? I'm only asking because I'm one in a million that has actually got a bad grind and my motor was acting somewhat the same. The flats on some of the lobes weren't and the valves were hanging open.
Do a compression check to determine it.

Re: ghost problem with new motor

i have not degreed the cam it was used but minimal wear my friend took it out of his camaro cus it was too much for him i replaced the lifters and used it. Its a crane cams energizer with a 440/440 lift pretty beefy but its what i wanted and hey it was free. and i just fixed a stripped screw on the back of the carb that would not tighten like i said it runs just not well idk what else could b done

Re: ghost problem with new motor

New lifters on an old cam will eat the lifters. Same as if you use old lifters on a new cam, the old lifters will destroy a new cam. Cams and lifters should always go together if they are installed used.
