Home from paint jail....been there a year

Here is my 72 K20...home from paint jail....she was there over a year...now I did get a screaming deal, so I don't mind the wait time.....now the real work happens....new headliner, fix the AC, re-install all of the interior, flush old fuel lines, new carb, and the list goes on....

One word of caution - I bought all the rubber seals, gaskets, and bumpers from LMC Truck (in the last 3 months)...the truck has never been outside since the installation and already the rubber is splitting...I called LMC this morning and they won't help and don't want to hear my complaint

...well here is the one photo that I snapped before loading her up onto the trailer...more to come...

Great looking truck!

Too bad LMC won't give you any customer service.

Re: Home from paint jail....been there a year

Thanks for the good words guys....if you have LMC rubber products - SEND THEM BACK QUICKLY...you only have a short period of time to return them...

I hear that Soft Seal products are much better....

I feel like I got screwed, I paid for the rubber, I paid for the install, and now I have to take anything that has their crappy rubber gasket on it apart and replace the seals....I don't know where LMC gets the rubber pieces parts, but I would bet it is somewhere between China, Thailand, or like places....I can't get past how much effort has been wasted on their crap....

I won't buy anything from them again - I'll make it from silicone and paper bags before that!!!

The truck is coming along nicely....I just came in from installing the headliner (did ya know that the LMC headliner trim is plastic? and equally crappy?) at least the headliner looks good....I have dinner waiting, so no more for today...we'll see what I can do between the 'honey do's of tomorrow.

On the headliner trim either by counterpart brand or Trim parts brand the other is JUNK!!!

Re: Home from paint jail....been there a year

hey so i got a question. it looks like you have 3 gas tanks? i knew they had an auxilary that i have seen on the drivers side but have not seen one on the pass side. that being said i would love to score the one for the drivers side for my truck as i plan on adding the tool box to the pass and also plan on getting rid of the tank behind the seat but leaving the cap on the cab side.

Yes, it has 3 tanks...the factory tank behind the seat, and 2 tanks in the bed. They sit in the front and are no more narrow than the wheel wells, so no real room lost. I took them out and had them cleaned and coated prior to being painted and re-installed.

Here is a photo with the bed cover open, you can see where they sit.

Those steel wheels are a whole story unto themselves....I had gotten the truck with 16.5 wheels (really ugly, see before photos)...I began trying to find out what wheels were available when the truck was made..I found out that the base model wheels were 16" and the 'upgrade' was to 16.5. It took me 8 months of hitting tire shops looking for these elusive 16" steel monsters when I found a musty old hippie living next Canyon lake who had the running gear from a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 and when he sold the axles the guy did not want the steel wheels....$25 bucks and a short drive later I have factory wheels again!

Is that a common problem? What is the 'fix'? I had not noticed, but now I kind of see a bit of difference...

I really like the dark green that was available on these trucks, but now I am growing more fond of the Olive as well....I felt that it would be best to put it back to the factory colors....I think that it turned out well

It's a fairly simple fix all you have do is jack the rear of the truck up untill the rear suspension is unloaded and hanging about an inch or two off the ground support the truck on stands then there is 2 U-bolts that hold the axle to the spring take those off move the axle back until it is centered in the wheel opening there should be a pin sticking down from the spring and a matching hole in the spring perch on the axle replace the block and U-bolts lower the truck onto the ground and with a friends help measure the distance from the center of your front wheel hub to the center of your rear wheel on the passanger side (as it looks like it hasn't shifted) and make the driver side match.

I just had to do this to my buddys 1995 GMC Yukon 2-door the most common cause is hollow lifting blocks that have failed. You may need to have set of blocks made from solid steel to replace the hollow OE units and I would advise you to replace the U-bolts with new ones as well.
