Bully Dog Triple Gt Tuner with driving coach

What is yalls opinion on this? Is it worth it to improve the milage or a waste of money. I read reviews of average of 3-4 mpg increase. Any thoughts?

No experience with the BD, but other plug in tuners I've seen have never came close to a real tune. I believe Shon on here can tune your computer. If not there are lots of places that will do a mail order or even a dyno tune for you, all can get you better mileage. Black Bear performance has the computer for my 72 right now. http://www.blackbearperformance.com/

Re: Bully Dog Triple Gt Tuner with driving coach

I wouldn't waste my money on a Bully Dog... They only provide for adjustment of a handful of parameters and I'm almost positive they don't make any adjustments to the transmission controller.

I just had Black Bear do tunes for my 2000 and 2002 trucks and I would highly recommend them. I bought a handheld device from them called an AutoCal... It was about $525 for the device including the tune and the tune on the 2nd truck cost about $200 (You can license up to 8 if you have that many trucks).

Basically, what happens is you get the unit, plug it into your truck and collect data while driving, send the log file by email to Black Bear and they send you a tune file back which you flash into the computer using the AutoCal unit. After you flash the PCM you collect some more data that they use to make any tweaks needed in the tune.

It is real slick and the tunes are amazing... My '02 2WD SWB performs like crazy now and the best part is the improvement to the transmission controller... The shifts are so quick and firm, it feels like driving a new truck.
