Anyone have/know a bit about this old style hitch..

I pulled this at the junkyard and sorta forgot how it bolted up..

It has scaly rust in between the pieces of sandwiched metal, so I cut the welds to clean it up and then weld it together solid.

Does it mount 'INSIDE' the frame or 'ON THE BOTTOM' of the frame?

Should there be holes already in the frame (There isnt, I thought there would be..)

That'll work! Those hitches were a common add-on back then. I've had a couple Blazers with them. I think there may have been one offered in the GM accessory catalog? Back then,most people used class I hitches. Class II was less common. These days it's all about "more". More is better in this case. But most of what people tow,like small utility trailers,work fine with that type hitch. It's equal to a step bumper hitch now.

Actually, these hitches are better than todays bumper hitches from what I can tell. I used to see them quite often years ago and as special-K mentioned, mostly used for small to medium boat towing and smaller trailers.

It looks good and gives the truck that vintage look...

Mine is a dealer/bumper setup, it's pretty stout, but I'm gonna add some plate to weld to the bumper, to bolt to the frame.

My grandpa has ran a welding shop that does hitches and stuff for the past 16 years, both my dad and my uncle have worked there, so to me, that looks puny.

yeah vintage is right, whata bout safety chains? I dont wanna ruin the look and weld some fugly things on it for the chains..Did it have something im unawawre of?

Just gonna haul small trailer with small fourwheelers (500 lbs or so), maybe the zero turn motor to mow at my moms a few miles up the road (I did that with the bumper pull too)

See if you can get chains long enough to loop around one of them lil cross braces and hook to themselves, but used a threaded loop that you can close up, you know what I mean?

my dad had those type of hitches for his whole life// had small 16foot boston whalers for over 30years always managed to tow them without a problem as well as a 12foot utility trailer haulin junk in and out of the homesteads and doin swapmeets and fleamarkets on a regular basis

Its not hard to make them more solid, if you got a welder and a steel saw and have a monkeys idea of what you want to do its not hard at all and i kinda enjoy it. I built one for my car and we completely rigged it up ourself and its still on there working great. It may not be as fancy as others but i bet its stronger than most people put on those cars.

That set-up is stronger than any step bumper mounted hitch. It's tied into the frame. You have to consider these hitches were designed back when most of the general public still had common sense. At least the ones who would have a need for a hitch.
