Does anyone know what this bracket is the one next to the exhaust manfold with the two holes in the top,is it a heat sheild or what.

are you asking about the piece bolted to the frame? If that's it, I think it is more of an air flow funnel. I have had these on a few of the heavy duty work trucks. My guess it directs the air around the back side of the manifold to help keep it cooler. It can't really be a heat shield because there is nothing in the area that needs shielding.

I have seen those mostly on the 72's. I am not sure if they came on different years. My theory is that they are heat shields as the manifolds used to get really hot with the retard timming setup that these trucks originally came with.

Anyone else have a thought on these?

Could be a heat sheild for the brake lines.

Hot air stove. On cold mornings the air door in snorkel wiil close to outside air--air must come up thru tube from stove which will be pulled around exhaust manifold which inturn heats the air causing the engine to run more smoothly. As engine heats up the temperture vac. switch ( located most of the time in themo. housing) closes the vac. off to snorkel opening the door to outside air. (that is if everything is working as per factory) Whewwww--don't you just love these long winded answers. (makes me look like I know what I am saying )

This one is a 72,but I have never saw one of these brackets before on any trucks 67-72,this is a original truck it only has 66,000 miles on it,and it has not been touched,so guess most of the ones I have seen have all been worked on(pulled apart),I guess I haven't seen to many original trucks,but really,how many are left?this one has had a camper top on it since it was new and been it the day its whole life,the bed looks new inside,not a scratch on the bed inside,it belongs to my brother,maybe I can talk him out of it,I hope.

Looks to be a 307 with 2 bar. Roc. Most of these had this setup.--next door neighbor has a 68 LB with this setup.

This bracket is bolted to the frame,if it was a heat stove would it not be just bolted to the manifold,with the tube going to the air cleaner,I have not seen one with a bracket for a heat stove bolted to the frame,with the torqe of the motor I wouldn't think it would work,if it would bolt to the frame,or iis it just to reflect the air in to the sheild on the manifold if that where the case than I could see it being part of the heat stove.

My 72 Custom Camper has these. I believe they are to direct air from the fan around and behind the exhaust manifold.
