Question Starting Problems

Hey all,

I have a quick question... On my new motor (carb to pan), I am having trouble getting the truck to start cold without starter spray. As soon as I spray - it starts right up and stays running.

I am running a rebult Q-jet (Autozone special). The only equipment that isn't hooked up is the charcoal canister.

could be a couple of things: is the gas in the tank old? have you checked the fuel strainer in the gas tank? did you change to electronic ignition? if so did you run a new wire to provide 12volts to the system?

I got it... I took the choke plate off a couple of days ago, and when I put it back on the linkage was sticking. I don't remember hitting the linkage, but the linkage was not allowing the choke plate to open.

I really need to get an electric choke to go on the Q-jet - anybody know of a conversion kit??

Thanks

PS - Last week I used POR15's fuel tank cleaner and sealer - it worked like a charm.

It could be the rebuild on the carb. I have had several from Kragen Auto, who has Ouadrajets rebuilt by Holly and only one out of three are worth keeping. Holly may build a good carb but as for the quality control on the rebuilts, all I can say is Im glad I don't depend on one for a daily driver. I had the Q-jet rebuilt on my 80 Vette 6 years ago and its still running great. It was a shop rebuilt, not an exchange from a discount parts house. Cost about the same as buying a rebuilt but I know it was done right when you know who the players are!
Just my 3 cents worth.
