Re: State Inspections are a joke

Living in PA all my life, I'm used to inspections. I can't believe all states don't require them. (I know it sucks and I'd be the last person that would want another bill to pay yearly but it's for safety) PA is quite strict and I'm also amazed that classic and antique tagged cars are exempt.

Car guys like us should be exempt. I mean, we fix our vehicles. We keep them in good condition. I'm mainly saying this for the majority of people out there that only drive a vehicle to get from point A to point B. How many of them keep a watch on the condition of their brakes, brake lines, tires, suspension, lights, etc? Alot of people in today's world are lucky if they know how to check the oil! (and some don't even do that!!!)

I'd just be concerned about all the cars & trucks coming at me (or behind me) driven by the non car types with faulty worn out parts on their cars.

There has to be more accidents in states without inspections don't ya think?

Re: State Inspections are a joke

Although I dont like them, I understand the need for them. I also dont like the emmissions testing we have here in Ga. Now if you want to hear stupid....out of all the counties in the state of Georgia they only test vehicles from about 12 of them. Its not state wide. You can live in other counties and drive long distances commuting into smog tested counties but you dont have to have a test. Its about as jacked up as the rest of the auto related rules in this state!

Re: State Inspections are a joke

In IL, at least in the county/city Im in, we dont have to be inspected. But I remember when my dad had to get his truck inspected years ago if there was a crack or chip in an area in front of the driver, about a 12x12 inch square, you wouldnt pass.

Re: State Inspections are a joke

We could list every variation of inspection laws for every jurisdiction, but only the one in Texas has relevance to this thread. The thread starter stated that in his jurisdiction windshields are not even considered. So,the question is how could a vehicle fail due to the windshield?

Re: State Inspections are a joke

I'm sorry, but it's federal law that the windshield not be broken. and not be missing..
and is why the TEXAS law requires wipers but says nothing about the windshield..
iho, is just fix the windshield, as you're asking to get pulled over..
really it's about common sence, and I'd hope a place would fail a truck with a cracked windshield..
good luck..

Re: State Inspections are a joke

Lol, 72freak. It's the same here in Washington. My wife's newer car has to have emissions, but my brother who lives 7 miles away from me doesn't have to have emissions. And he's not even in a diff county!

fed regs say nothing about a windshield. they have mandated many things but the windshield wasn't one of them. you can remove it all together and not have a problem, but you must keep the wipers as they are fed mandated lol

I was just at a Jeep dealer a couple of weeks ago looking at a 2011 Wrangler and I thought it had the folding windshield I'll have to stopby and double check...

those regs that I was in reference to were as of a couple of years ago I'll have to recheck them but I'm sure it hasn't changed but that doesen't mean I would run without the windshield you would get too many bugs in your teeth lol

Todays new cars and trucks reley on the winshield for their body rigidity in a crash witch is why among other resons they are glued in and don't use gaskets anymore

BTW I am a auto body tech with over 25yrs exp

Done! Went to the other side of town, no problem. We will eventually replace the windshield, but it will be fine for a while:

He'll be fine. I have a friend who's been driving her 70 lwb with the windshield cracked almost the same for 15 years now.

Re: State Inspections are a joke

Been living out of Texas for about 10 years (USAF). Going back this summer. Within 30 days I have to get the trucks inspected. I'm not worried about the 71, but the 86 doesn't have emissions anymore. I hope I don't have any problems. It still has the cat, but no smog pump.

Re: State Inspections are a joke

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety website, windshields are not on the list items to be inspected for the annual safety inspection.

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/insp...classsubmit=Go

Personally I do not mind paying $15 for the safety inspection. At least most of the motorized vehicles on the roads in Texas have minimum saftety requirements.

Rogergodding, I'm glad you just went to another place. Some inspectors are just going way overboard. I had a buddy who failed a safety inspection in a 1989 5.0 mustang because the headlight wobbled according to the tech. He charged my buddy $15. My buudy had ten days to make the necessary repairs for re-inspection. We went home and JB welded two little plastic parts back together. Went back to the same place for the inspection and the same tech was there. The tech didn't want to pass the car but we told him, " you said it was wobbly, well it ain't wobbly no more!" The guy balked saying it wasn't a proper repair but he eventually passed it. I have been bad mouthing that place to anyone and everyone for the last 15 years.

Good deal,

keith

Oh yeah, that first place will not have my business again... I took my 71 there 3 times last year to get it inspected, they were out of stickers or the inspector was gone or some crap and now this with my kid's truck.....
