What would you guys do?

I'm trying to line up my stupid aftermarket drivers door. I cant track down a factory door anywhere and this aftermarket one was cheap (I now know why)
I have it all lined up all the gaps are good but now with the latch on it closes too far and I'm out of adjustment on the latch. I was about to get the grinder and welder out but I figured I should ask you guys what you'd do first! Can I move the striker out more? Should I cut into the door and move the latch in more? Feedback please!!

Re: What would you guys do?

just loosen the striker and move it out, there is a lot more adjustment in there then u might think. just be careful not to have it out so far where the top weatherstripping isnt water tight

Re: What would you guys do?

Thats how my door looked without the weatherstripping when i replaced it. The weatherstripping makes a difference.

Re: What would you guys do?

I moved the striker out and put the weather stripping in. It got the body lines lined up. The door still fits like sh*t though! I'm getting the truck painted very soon but I'm gonna have to find a factory door

Re: What would you guys do?

Regarding the striker bolt, you may have to reach behind the door pillar and hold on to the nut on the opposite side when tightening it. That nut can spin a little when you tighten it, and even though it seems tight it may loosen over a short period of time. Also, if the door hinge pins are shot, then you should replace those. Grab hold of the door by the handle and try to move it up and down. If it moves a lot, then the hinge pins need replacing.

Re: What would you guys do?

I'd agree in saying that you aught to A: move the striker out, and B: put on the weather stripping that you're using. How are the gaps everywhere else? Mine were wonky all the way around, like a blind man put on the door skin.

Re: What would you guys do?

It looks like your missing the plastic bushing on the striker, that also make a big difference in how the door seats.

The gaps are pretty crappy all around! I'm not sure how my fender gap is gonna look either, since the door isnt quite as wide as the factory one.

Re: What would you guys do?

Hey guys thanks for all the help. After screwing with the door for a while I got it to fit pretty well. I took the truck for paint yesterday and the guys really seem to know what they are doing. They said they'd line up all the panels for free!
