What would you plunk your bucks down for, Holley or Weber?

Hi there! I'm working on a 1980 with a 250 straight 6. Right now it has a rochester 2SE thats giving me fits.

I'm looking at the;
Holley Model 2300, 350 cfm
weber 32/36 DGV
Weber 38 DGES

What would you plunk your bucks down for, Holley or Weber?

Would the weber 32/36 be a good size for a stock motor?

Are these direct replacements? What's causing you fits with the stock carb?

I think the weber will bolt right up but I need an addapter plate for the holley.
Maybe some rejetting on either.
The stock carb is stumbling off idle and the secondaries aren't wanting to open. I think it uses vacume to open the flapper on top. The bottom is opened by the throttle linkage.

I would chose the Weber. Good range of jets available and they have good adjustability to dial them in. The tech support people should be able to specify the right carb and jet combo. The stock carb should work well if it is rebuilt properly.

The reason I say that is this how many holley style knock offs do you see around? Or aftermarket parts? There like the glock of the car parts they just plain work and everybody wants to be them.

Also you don't see to many Webers in the professional field, ie Drag Racing, NASCAR, 24 hour lemans you name it.

x2 i would go with a holley for my truck because i like them and they are some of the best damn carbs out there but i can't say which is right for you

The stumbling is from a week accellerator pump and in combination with that model of carb being very lean. The top flap on the secondary is spring loaded to stay shut and vacuum is there to keep it shut. Full throttle you will loose vacuum allowing the flap to come open with the draw of air from the intake. You won't notice this unless your being very hard on the accellerator (Far more than your going to do in the driveway). If I were to take may carb off again I'd drill the idle jet oversize to richen it up some (Don't over do it).

If your ever going to be in a smog check area like here in Cali you find the tricks and that does not include the replacement of just any old carburator. A $25 kit and massaged just right your carb will work just fine.
