Persistance pays off

Success at last!!! After nearly NINE YEARS of dealing with the worst body shop in the D/FW messtroplex, numerous lame excuses, delays, run arounds, and finally a little help from the good folks at pre-paid legal services, I was able to get the parts back for the 1971 GMC restoration project that I started with my oldest son.
The moral of this story is, never, never, never allow any shop to do any work without first getting a DETAILED WRITTEN CONTRACT, spelling out exact cost, and time of completion.

Re: Persistance pays off

Believe me, it's a long story, and It used up all of my patience. It finally came down to the last resort of filing a law suit before I was able to get anything done.

Oh well...at least the nightmare is over. Having the cab done is a big accomplishment in any restoration.

That's gotta be some kind of record. I am impressed by the amount of patience you have. Know you can start on everything else - good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Persistance pays off

I commend your patience and your ability to withstand the temptation of what I would have probably done, which is wait outside the shop for the owner and persuade....ok, I'll just stop there and let your imagination go with the rest.

I am very glad you got it back!

Can you give us an idea of which paint hell to avoid?

Re: Persistance pays off

So, yours was held hostage for nine years.....mine was disassembled in '07, with a promise to have it ready for the 08 Power Tour. I picked it up in January....(see pic). Now, my youngest son and I have painted the frame rails, cross member and trailing arms. the rest of the front suspension is getting cleaned up and sandblasted to prep for paint.

I hate that we get screwed-over by people we think we can trust. Once they get our money, they have no motivation until we go to court. Sucks to be them....and us, huh?

Glad you were finally able to get it back. BTW it does look good in the photos! Too bad you had to wait nine years.

Re: Persistance pays off

The cab looks really nice. I am surprised you got it back and got it back looking that good. They must have finished the work and then given it back, kudos to you for getting them to complete it.

Re: Persistance pays off

Unfortunately an all too often story. It seems like for every 2 good body shop stories there is at least one bad one. It's kinda scary.

Re: Persistance pays off

For legal reasons, I won't disclose the name of the shop, but I would advise anyone in the D/FW area to avoid any body shops located on the West side of Ft Worth , near the entrance to Lockheed Martin.
