Need help wit da bouncy stuff!
Hey all I need some help with my 77 c10 and hope the more knowledgeable persons can help me! I am trying to figure out what I have and then what i need to do from there. I am wanting to lower this ride some more but I want to get setup for more track use but still have good street manners.
I would like to get some type of "moroso trick springs" for the front maybe with some drag shocks. Rear maybe setup some caltracs! I would like to get the biggest tire under it without cutting the rear end etc. Curently I am running a 454 mild build with a 125 shot, th350 w/3k stall and 10bolt rear with 3.73 gear, set of slapper bars with 325/50/15 drag radials. The setup is working but here is where its going to get interesting. I am currently building a 502 with doug herbert top end kit, which I guess should put me in the 650hp + then on top of that maybe shoot a 150 shot! I want get the best setup but not break any banks getting there. Here is some pics of whats under my truck and my stance and maybe you all could tell me what ya think I need and what if any I could do to get lower with the stuff I would like to get " caltracs, drag shocks, trick springs" !! Right rear Left rear Left front Right front - This spring is smaller in size and has lots of those spring screws/jacks what ever! Trucks stance! Sorry for the long post hope I covered what my intentions are and hope I can get some help figuring this stuff out! |

Re: Need help wit da bouncy stuff!
Welcome to the forum McNutty. I can offer some advice on your front suspension, but not as much on the rear. I'm not sure exactly what you have going on back there right now.
Its appears you have a few leaves removed from your leaf pack, and and aftermarket coil set up installed. My thoughts are you should scrap all that and go with a 4 link based on your plans for the future motor. We have a lot of guys here that might know high HP applications better than I do so I will let them offer input there. For the front, you need to trash whatever rigged up mess the PO installed, and start over. I prefer to gain as much drop as possible with spindle. I recommend a 2.5" or 3" drop spindle to get you lower, combined with the Moroso drag springs and shocks. The catch to that is you may have issues with tire clearance. It appears you have a wide tire and wheel that might rub if lowered and running better springs.

Re: Need help wit da bouncy stuff!
well, a few things,,
the front, you already know the springs under it are junk.. the trick springs are very tall, but you want to lower the truck some..if you get drop spindles, don't cheap out.. if you ever get it to "hook" the nose up and it coming down fast can snap elcheapo spindles..(keep that in mind) the back.. WTF is that mess.. looks like someone dropped the truck then needed a way for it to still hall stuff (and the reason for the coils) no idea if you can get cal trac's with a flip'd rear (spring above axle) before you start throw'n money at it.. I'd leave the rear alone, get springs in the front.. and adjustable shocks all around.. add an airlift bag to the right rear coil and preload that side at track.. and see what it does before spending money on the rear set up.. 650hp+150 shot is gonna kill that th350 if it hooks.. |

Re: Need help wit da bouncy stuff!
Well think I will just do the trick springs with drag shocks in front and get rid of the helper springs in rear and add caltracs! Now I just need to figure out if the chevelle trick springs will work in these trucks? Maybe more can chime in!
Stich when the 502 goes in a th400 is going in also! |

Re: Need help wit da bouncy stuff!
I'd leave the rear coils, they might help with axle hop
I'd also get adjustable shocks, 90/10's suck on the street |

Re: Need help wit da bouncy stuff!
You might try the asking about the Chevelle springs in the "Racing and high performance" forum. I can tell you that Capt Kaos is a dealer for Caltracs, and has a reputation for good prices, and great service.
