Question: Bed Mounting Pads

I have a question, the bed mounting pads that are sold reproduction, are they specifically for wood beds, or do metal beds need use them? When I took apart my wood bed, there were not any rubber pads there to speak of. Also, on one of the truck websites it shows wood longbeds as needing the 10 piece kit. I have a Longhorn...so do I need more? To confuse things further, on the package of rubber bed mounting pads, it specifies 1/2 ton. My truck is a 3/4 ton.
Does anyone know for sure what the story is with these things?
Thanks,
Richard

Re: Question: Bed Mounting Pads

I have heard they are strictly aftermarket, and not factory. I just did a bed swap (steel floor) a couple of months ago and there was no trace of any pads ever being between the bed and frame.

Re: Question: Bed Mounting Pads

My longhorn didnt have any pads under the bed....nor have any other truck I have dismantled. IMHO, I beleive the bed will stay tighter mounted without them. crazyL

Smile Re: Question: Bed Mounting Pads

i have pulled a lot of beds off 1/2 and 3/4 tons and have never seen pads between the bed and the frame mounts. i believe it's an aftermarket thing.

Re: Question: Bed Mounting Pads

Those pads were originally used on the 41-53 style trucks with the wood blocks. They can be used on the 67-72 series but are not factory.
